ovrclkr
Hay guys I got my CORSAIR Dominator 2GB DDR2 1142 from Newegg about 8 months ago; ran quite a while then a couple of days ago pushed the power button and no POST! I did some research and it seems that other people are having the same problem. Any thoughts?
DerekT
You have very likely lost your CMOS settings and the DRAM has defaulted back to the JEDEC DRAM voltage settings of 1.8V and which your high end Dominators will not accept. Remove the DRAM and install a single stick of Standard DDR2 Dram. Restart the System. Enter the BIOS and set the DDR2 Dram Voltage (Vdimm) to 2.1v. Shut the system down. Remove the single stick and reinstall your Dominators back into the Commando. Restart the system and you will very likely have to insert your previous settings. If you use an anti-surge power bar, you need to know that most of these bars are controlled via capacitors which will lose their ability to smooth out the surge after a certain amount of surges. This can lead to a surge "getting through" and emptying the CMOS settings. You might wish to look towards purchasing a uninterruptible power source. They are quite inexpensive and will remove this issue repeating itself.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted October 1, 2007 Corsair Employees Share Posted October 1, 2007 In addition to what Derek said, I would recommend that you reset the CMOS on the board and attempt to boot with each stick individually. Once you get into the BIOS, load setup defaults and set the memory voltage back to 2.1v, then try booting with both modules.
ovrclkr
Thanks guys CMOS getting reset is what I thought. just gotta wait till I get some 1.8v memory. I think have it down to that or bad stick/s. will post the results.

ovrclkr
Hay guys, just got in some cheap ram got it all set back up, and put my Dominators back in and it ran for a good 20 min. then i decided to reboot. Now it's doing the same thing as it did at first; but the cheap stuff works fine boots and everything. Now I really do think it is bad sticks of ram. Any thoughts?:brick:
Yellowbeard
When you are running the 9136 Dominator, are you setting the RAM voltage to 2.1v? Also, can you list ALL of your bios settings you have set that relate to voltages, RAM, and CPU. If you are OCing, there may be an issue other than the memory. Also, do you have the latest bios for your Commando?
ovrclkr
I'm not OCing yet just trying to get it back running again first. when I got it running the first time after resetting default left cpu, ram speed, and ram timeings alone just set ram voltage at 2.1v. while it was running I updated the bios to 1501 and it rebooted and started fine. Ran for about 20 min rebooted again to start OCing when it restarted no post nothing same problem as before. took Dominators out put in the cheap stuff worked fine booted at 2.1v, knocked voltage down to 1.8 started up ran slow it's only 512mb but it runs. ovrclkr
had the system OCed before but only the cpu and gpu memory was fast enuf without OCing ran at stock speed and timing
Yellowbeard
After the bios flash, did you clear the CMOS? Did the flash revert the voltage back to stock? If you have not cleared the CMOS, clear it and make sure you set the timings manually and the voltage to 2.1v.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted October 10, 2007 Corsair Employees Share Posted October 10, 2007 What do you have your 9136 memory frequency set to when it is crashing, and how fast is the 512MB part that you are currently having no issues with? ovrclkr
The flash did revert to default reset everything. I left the timing at auto to reduce variables, cleared CMOS again and set timing still the same. timing set to 5-5-5-15, as for the 512 it is PC2-5400 4-4-4-12 1.8v-2.0v. DerekT
I have had two of these Commando boards personally. They have been quite a bit of trouble with high end dram and settings. I have had to remove the 8500C5's and set with 6400C4, lower the overclock, run it for a few days and let the 8500's sit. Then they install just fine for a week or two at the high end settings and your issue happens. I have sold both these boards. I was impressed with the sound. The TI Firewire was a plus. The overclock was decent, not great but decent but the DRAM issues were continuous. I now have a P5K-E and a P5K deluxe with the same DRAM sticks and higher overclocks both DRAM and CPU and NO issues. Go figure... One thing that did help, was setting the BIOS back to 0803. I did that. Lowered the overclock and they worked decent enough at 3.2Ghz. Edit: The problems I speak of is when overclocking both CPU and DRAM at the high end. At moderate overclocks of both the issue is far less. E6600 @ 3.6Ghz with 1200Mhz @ 2.35V (Active Cooling) Same settings with P5K-Deluxe has shown no issue whatsoever. Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted October 11, 2007 Corsair Employees Share Posted October 11, 2007 We can try replacing them if you like but testing them in another MB would help to isolate the memory, please use the On Line RMA Request Form and we will be happy to replace them.
