MalcB
Hi Have a brand new Corsair 520W, which is refusing to fully power up. Without installing (inside pc case), connected it to an old MSI, socket A m/b (working, and currently running Windows Me), Ziltch ! Tried a friend's identical 520W Corsair, No problems, powered up as usual. So it's definately not a faulty pc. So I took the offending article and connected just an HDD on one lead, and a 80 mm fan on another. I then shorted out the Green, and a Black wire on the 20/24 connector. The 80 mm starts, and continues to spin for as long as the two wires are shorted. The main 120 mm fan however, starts, does approx a dozen revolutions, stops, does a couple in the opposite direction and then stops completely. Meanwhile no sounds of life at all from the HDD. About every 5 seconds the main PSU fan gives a little 'jerk' as though it wants to start, but it cannot manage a complete revolution. (Don't want to leave the pins shorted for very long though, especially without the main fan working !!!). I have tried the 80 mm fan lead, in all the modular outlet holes, and it spins in all of them. So there is definately SOME 'juice' getting through. There are no noises or anything coming from the PSU. It is absolutely silent. There are no impediments to the rotation of the main fan either. WEIRD ! Any ideas please Much appreciated MalcB
