Nytmare
Hello...somewhat new to this...so be patient. I was looking to build my first system and looking at the Striker Extreme Mobo with 3.0 GHz Intel Dual Core CPU. I am a little overwhelmed about which Corsair memory to order. I did look at the Memory Configurator---> 20 something choices IoI Low$: Twin 2x2048-6400C4 Mid$: Twin 2x2048-8500C5D High$: Twin 2x2048-8888C4DF I thought the Ram Guy posted in a thread his rec of Twin 2x4096-6400C5DHX -any thoughts on above? -at this point I am thinking staying 32 bit with Win XP...would getting 4 Gig of memory be overkill? Thought I heard somewhere the OS will only see 3 Gig -any more more info about the x-x-x-x classification of the memory (I know it has something to do with latency and clock cycles)? -1 Gig blocks vs 2 Gig blocks? DerekT
With an E6850 I would go for the 6400C4 modules and run the CPU at 9 X 400Mhz (or somewhere thereabouts, depending on the CPU's ability) for a speed of 3.6Ghz. Your ram would be running at 6400 DDR800Mhz with 4-4-4-12 timings and that would be a very fine system with timings of 4-4-4-12. CAS Latency Time (tCL) - 4 RAS# to CAS# Delay (tRCD) - 4 RAS# Precharge (tRP) - 4 Precharge Delay (tRAS) - 12 DRAM Voltage = 2.0v I advise a Tuniq Tower or a Thermalright Ultra12 eXtreme Cooler: http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/coolers/display/thermalright-ultra120ex.html If you need any help with the overclock, please post in the enthusiast section and you will get help for the overclock.
