bbc20000
Hi, I just got my memory today. Corsair VALUE SELECT 2GB SODIMM DDR2 PC-5300. The memory goes into HP DV9310 with AMD TURION X2 TL-50 CPU and GEFORCE GO 6150. The memory is recognized just fine and VISTA loads up without a problem. The laptop works for 10-15 minutes and then it hangs without a warrning. I've tried to change BIOS settings to default but it does not help at all. There are 3 settins for SHARED VIDEO MEMORY. 32, 64 and 128MB. Weird thing is that when memory is set to either 32 or 64MB, once Vista is loaded the laptop hangs right all the way. When the memory is set to 128MB the laptop works much longer but it still hangs. I removed one corsair module and put original 512MB HP module. Now the laptop runs on 1 1gb CORSAIR and 1 512mb OEM memory module and it does not hang at all. It works perfectly. What is going on here ? No_Fear
have you tryed to use program like memtest with each of the ram module at a time?
bbc20000
no i have not tried memtest. i will do it asap. is there any other program that could test memory through windows vista it seems very complicated how to test memory with the memtest also i've noticed that the new corsair memory gets very hot very quickly. is that normal ? No_Fear
http://www.memtest.org/ its not so dificult to use it just create a floppy boot disk and boot with it. i think there is a reason that dont make them work throw windows,so you can test the whole ram. you can try this as well http://www.memtest86.com/ i havent see any notebook rams from corsair but the noraml pcs ram getting hot quickly. Garvin
If you don't have a floppy drive on that notebook, just follow the instructions for burning an ISO image of Memtest 86+ onto a CD ( they're on the same page No_Fear linked to) and use that in your optical drive after changing the boot order in the BIOS to see the CD drive first. While your in the BIOS, look around for any "legacy USB" option and temporarily disable it. On certain motherboards having "legacy USB" enabled while running memory tests can generate false memory errors. Good luck.
bbc20000
I will do the Memtest as you suggesting. However, I did my own test. What I did I put first one stick into the computer with the OEM stick to see if the laptop hangs. result is: it does not hang then i put the second stick into the computer with the same OEM stick to see if the laptop hangs result is: it does not hang then i put together both CORSAIR VALUR RAM sticks together result is: the laptop hangs right after it boots into VISTA. So I guess both CORSAIR sticks do not want to work with each other Any suggestions ?
bbc20000
CORRECTION. The 2nd stick of memory actually hanged my laptop. Right after I finished writing in here! The 1st stick of memory I ran over night and no problems. The 2nd stick of memory hanged the computer in 5 minutes. Do I still have to run the MEMTEST ? DerekT
Please run memtest with each stick singly and then with them together. This will isolate any software issues from the testing. Results?
bbc20000
how long i am supposed to test memory for ?
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted September 28, 2007 Corsair Employees Share Posted September 28, 2007 2 or 3 passes should be enough to show a memory error, and I would just use our modules and load setup defaults in the BIOS setup when you change the modules.
