antoniz_4
Which mobo would you suggest for use with 2x CORSAIR DOMINATOR PC-8500 (1066MHZ) DUAL CHANNEL KIT, that is 4GB of ddr2-1066 dominator memory?
DerekT
I would personally go with the P35 chipset as it is the most allowing of 4 - 8GB DRAM. My choice at this time would be the P5K-E mainboard. It will allow you to use Core 2 Duo and Core 2 Quad with 4GB. Keep in mind that if you wish to address all 4GB then you will need a 64Bit Operating System such as WinXP 64/VISTA 64/Linux, etc...
antoniz_4
i was thinking about p35-dq6 or p35-ds4...
DerekT
i was thinking about p35-dq6 or p35-ds4... For Dual Core, I would go with the DS4, and with a Quad Core I would choose the DQ6. The DS4 with an 8-Phase power design will be fine even with the Quad, but if you are looking for very high Quad numbers, then the 12-Phase of the DQ6 will certainly be more helpful to keep the strobe/ripple in line. Both boards make use of the same sound and utilize a good Texas Instruments Firewire port. The crazy cool PWM stack seems rather nice but I doubt it is much better than the smaller heatsinks of the DS4. They are both decent boards. antoniz_4
yes but do you think that i am going to run into any problems if i want to use 4GB ddr2-1066 dominator and a p35-ds4/dq6 mobo? i intend to use a 64 bit os so am only interested of there are any incompatibilities on a hardware level. Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted September 26, 2007 Corsair Employees Share Posted September 26, 2007 Not really but with 4 modules you might be limited to DDR800.
antoniz_4
and that takes us back to my original question. which motherboard is able to "handle" 4 sticks running at ddr2-1066? does it have to be a 680i based mobo?
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted September 27, 2007 Corsair Employees Share Posted September 27, 2007 All of the 680I MB's are rated at DDR800 for the memory DDR1066 would be an over clocked setting. Only the new Intel P35 Chipset would officially support 1066 FSB for memory.
