I have a couPle questions, hopefully you can clear them out for me :)

1. I am not so sure about the numbers after 4-4-4-12 are right. If possible, could you tell me the right number i should use? I don't OC, Stability is my #1 concern.

2. Do I need to manully set the Memory Voltage to 2.1?

3. As you indicated on other posts, if i use the 1GBx4 setup with this mobo, i will need to down grade the speed to DDR2-667? Like i list before i am currently running 4-4-4-12 with 4x 1GB in Vista x64 and CPU-z still showing the cOrrect setting as 800 instead of 677 which you suggested. I have read ASUS's manual over and over, it only stated that:

(*Due to chipset limitation, this motherboard can only support up to 8GB on the operating systems below. You may install a maximum of 2GB DIMMs on each slot, but only DDR@-533 and DDR2-667 2 GB density modules are available for this configuration.)I think this might be what you were talking about, but which one is true? 1x4GB or any single 2GB stick will get effected?

Thanks,

I'm not RamGuy, but I think I can help you. I would set the ram manually to 2.1v.

Sometimes one gets lucky and is able to run fully stable with 2 X 2GB on such boards. I have seen this happen. 4 X 1GB sticks are far more problematic. Now if you have run memtest, and are stable with 800Mhz at 4-4-4-12, then you are good for the go. I personally would increase the DRAM voltage to help the controller out a bit. Have you run Memtest? If not, download from http://www.memtest.org and test this setup.

Results?

Well, i did try memtest before without any errors. :)

but i guess it's too late....

This morning, i downloaded the newest version of ASUS Update software for Windows Vista x64 and newest BIOS V.1216.

Guess what? It currupted my bios and after i contacted ASUS, so far the only answer i got was, i shouldn't run the ASUSUpdate in windows vista since many people are having the same problem ( For months !!! ), i should only use the DOS version.

I am still waiting for RMA respond from both ASUS / Newegg, they both close for the weekend. People on ASUS's Forum suggest me to buy the replace bios chip for $30 which is faster than send it back for repair.

Imo, since this is known bug by ASUS, they should have take that ASUSUpdate software out of their website months ago and make some type of notice first before user download the update.

I am kind of disappointed with ASUS now, i have 2 dead mobo from ASUS within 2 years.

So my question now is, which mobo should i buy if i don't rma the old one?

Well, i currently have E6700 with 6400c4 x4 (4x 1GB), 4x 320 hdd running in RAID 5.... and Vista x64. I don't know if i should buy another P5B so i will have less impact with vista. Or just buy a completely different board?

Any suggestion? I am think about Gigabyte 965P-DS3... but not sure if that works well with my current 4x 6400xc setup...

PS. even i buy the bios chip... i will still having problem to replace it, since it's not locate at where it should be on the manual.

I look everywhere, still can't find the BIOS Chip !!! Orz

I'd go for the RMA personally. Do you have a laptop or another system you can use while this occurs.

I can't really say what board to get as I find ASUS my favorite. I like Gigabytes as well. Keep in mind that the problem could well not be ASUS's Winflash, it is that the VISTA OS has many problems interfacing with software and hardware.

I am currently using my laptop for now with windows xp.

I am sure Windows Vista would the first to blame.... especially i am using x64 version.

I used the update software with windows xp couple months ago, it was great never had any problem. This only happened after I switch to vista.

I am trying to RMA atm but when i went to asus' website they told me to contact the reseller and on newegg's website, it told me to contact Asus lol.

I submit RMA request already on both company, just have to wait and see on Monday.

My whole point is ASUS should have notify user not to use this software at all and pull the software down from their website before the same case build up. It confuses users by stating this is the newest version of ASUS Update for Windows Vista x64. Most of people will automaticially think this will work but end up with currupt BIOS.

I'm not too mad at this, i'm just thinking asus could have done better...

I'm doing research now on which mobo i will get in case i don't get it to RMA. Newegg said it only covers 1 year warranty where Asus says 3 years.

Well, after read tons of posts about defected memory modules, i was thinking maybe it was just very small portion of it, so i didn't pay much attention about it.

I just put and new system up last night with EVGA 680I SLI A1 motherboard and intel E6850 and Corsair 2x TWIN2X20486-6400C4D memory sticks...

I was having a hard time booting up, my mobo wouldn't dectect HDD correctly.... i thougth about maybe it's the mobo.. hdd.. sata cabless...

i tried replace all that but didn't help...

They i start testing the sticks with memtest86+1.7 and 3.3.... one of the stick came out defected...

i pulled them out and ran the test again for 5 hours.. no error so far.. and hdd doesn't hang while post...

i don't use ide.. i have 4 exact same seagate hdds and 2 sata dvds...

during post.. it would hang and said one or two of hdd can't be dectected.

the exact sata port hang randomly change.. mostly from port 3 to 6...

but sometime it will work for a while, and i get bsod after i got into windows vista... i am 100% sure all hdd are working.. tried them all out on other pc.

RamGuy, do you think it's possible that it's memory stick that was causing the problem?

Thank you,
