Byrdman
RAM GUY!!! I just upgraded to an EVGA 680i 122-CK-NF68-A1 motherboard with two sticks of the DOMINATOR CM2X1024-8500C5D v1.2. This motherboard shipped with the latest BIOS and I flashed to the latest (same) BIOS just to be sure... I am using an Intel Core 2 Duo E6550 Conroe 2.33GHz with the stock heat sink & fan and an EVGA GeForce 8800GTS 320MB [320-P2-N815-AR] Video card. I have been trying to get this system to work for HOURS! I tried following POSTS #307888 & #307968 http://www.houseofhelp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=62877&highlight=chris. My computer will not BOOT. It consistently hangs at the Windows XP Logo screen. It appears to take about 30-45 minutes just to get to the Windows desktop or won’t boot at all!!! Dropping the FSB and memory to 800MHz is the only way I get through the first part of the Windows installation without crashing or hanging/taking forever at the Windows Logo screen. I am VERY frustrated!!! Please give DETAILED troubleshooting instructions/settings. I had no idea this memory would be so hard configure with this motherboard. I am not interested in overclocking right now. I just want the damn board and RAM to work (at the rated speed). I also noticed in the BIOS my (Intel Core 2 Duo E6550 Conroe 2.33GHz) processor temperature reads 61 degrees Celsius and 142 degrees Fahrenheit. I am using the Intel stock cooler. Is that normal or do I have an overheating heating issue? PLEASE HELP!!!:feedback:

Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted September 17, 2007 Corsair Employees Share Posted September 17, 2007 That CPU Temp seems high to me, I would check with the MB maker and make sure they BIOS supplied on the MB will indeed see that CPU properly. The CPU running hot like that would suggest maybe its not. And if they say that BIOS is OK and do not have a newer version I would suggest testing the modules on another system one at a time if you can at their tested settings. And you can and should use http://www.memtest.org to test the modules.
DerekT
My computer will not BOOT. It consistently hangs at the Windows XP Logo screen. This means that your computer has booted the hardware and is hanging on the software initialization. Dropping the FSB and memory to 800MHz is the only way I get through the first part of the Windows installation without crashing or hanging/taking forever at the Windows Logo screen. Do you mean that you are underclocking the FSB from 1333 to 800MHz? I am VERY frustrated! This is understandable when a system is not performing correctly. I had no idea this memory would be so hard configure with this motherboard. I am not interested in overclocking right now. I just want the damn board and RAM to work (at the rated speed). Sometimes it takes some work to make the hardware work correctly. Please try and relax a bit and not get into the blame game so that we can help you trouble-shoot just where the issue actually lies. Your CPU is VERY hot if it is showing that temperature in BIOS as BIOS does not show a full reading. You need to remove the heatsink, remove the TIM (Thermal Interface Material) and replace it with some thermal paste and reapply the heatsink. The heatsinks of the stock Intel variety are not easy to apply and often people set them too loosely. Sometimes the IHS (Integrated Heat Sink) of the CPU is not flat (Concave) and there is not a good fit. Use a piece of glass and place it against the CPU IHS to see if the fit between the glass and the CPU is flat. If it is not, then you need to go through an RMA process or deal with your vendor. It seems as though your CPU is far too hot and is throttling, thus halting system performance. My first guess would be that you have not set the Intel Stock Heatsink correctly and it is overheating the CPU.
wbanes
I currently have an E6700 Core 2 DUO 2.66. At idle I run at about 43 degrees Celsius, with an ARCTIC COOLING Freezer 7 Pro 92mm heat sink. With the stock heat sink I was at 45-47 degrees Celsius, on both heat sinks I use Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Compound. I would say 61 degrees is to hot. When I get a lot of processing going it will be around 71 degrees celcius and running stable.
