Havoc_Zero_Six
I recently purchased a twin set of 1024 XMS2 PC-6400C4G modules (4-4-4-12 stock). I currently have 2 gigs of a twin set XMS2 6400 (5-5-5-12 stock) installed in my EVGA Nforce 680i mobo running with Windows Vista Home Premium 64 edition. However, when I fill all 4 memory slots with both pairs, I get a memory POST error (C-1 LED followed by long and steady beeps)and the computer won't go to BIOS. I know the 2 new 6400 C4G sticks are functional- when installed by themselves the computer runs great (albeit with only 2 gigs) and the BIOS recognizes the sticks as "SLI ready." I also know that all four memory slots are functional as well- I used a single stick in each and the computer posted succesfully every time. I tried installing the slower pair first and then clocking the BIOS manually by adjusting the timings to the 5-5-5-12 but the same POST error occurs. I'm pretty much certain that these two pairs just arn't compatible in tandem with my motherboard, but I'd really like to confirm this before I return them and get hit with a restock fee just for a simple exchange. I did notice that in the BIOS my initial RAM (the plain ol' 6400's) are read as: "SLI ready not recognized." Could this be the issue? Thanks for the help! Oh, and I did already run the Vista Hotfix and update my MOBO firmware. Same behavior.
CrazyOleg
What happens if you have one module from each pair running together? If they wont run together there might be a compatibility issue, but they run together at your settings, you may just have a configuration issue when running 4 modules. Havoc_Zero_Six
Running two of the different sticks together results in the same memory POST error (regardless of which slots they're in).
CrazyOleg
They are probably not compatible together with your motherboard/BIOS. I would try to return one set and match all the modules together.
Havoc_Zero_Six
Edit: I tried mixing up the pairs again today just for the heck of it, and for some reason, now it boots fine (but again: only when two slots are occupied). I used different combinations and different slots and sure enough: two mixed sticks function as long as only two given slots are filled. Any more than two, and the same boot memory error occurs. 680i MOBO defect perhaps?
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted September 17, 2007 Corsair Employees Share Posted September 17, 2007 Try setting the memory frequency at DDR667 and set the memory Voltage to 2.0 Volts and just let the BIOS set the timings.
