Manaheim
EDIT: FYI, the motherboard has been updated with the most recent BIOS from ASUS. I have a P5KC and am now on my second set of this Corsair RAM. When I had problems with the first set, I double checked with Corsair and a helpful tech told me that I will work, but that I need to manually set it up in the BIOS. When I turn on the box it boots, but if I set the 5/5/5/15 and 2.2V as the tech told me, the system fails POST- doesn't even get to video. After a couple resets, it comes back and says that the overclock failed and I need to adjust settings. One time I managed to get it to boot and actually indicate that there was 2 gig of 1066 RAM in the board, but it hung right there. The board works fine with some Corsair DDR2 800 MHz RAM that I have, and this is actually a second motherboard from Asus (as it turned out the first one was having some other issues). Help? :)
DerekT
I would try setting your DRAM to Slot B1 and Slot B2 (Black Slots) as opposed to Slot A1 and Slot A2. There are many having this issue with this board.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted September 14, 2007 Corsair Employees Share Posted September 14, 2007 If you can I would suggest testing them in another system and or with a bigger PSU as well with that system.
Manaheim
Unfortunately I wound up giving up for now and sent the RAM back. I'll use the lesser RAM for a while and pick up some DDR3 when it comes down a bit in price. Do you really think power was related? On POST? Seems 550W would be plenty to at least successfully start the box.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted September 17, 2007 Corsair Employees Share Posted September 17, 2007 That Video card you have is one of the most power hungry cards on the market and 550 Watts should be enough, but the Video card needs about 22-28 Amps by it self and I think that PSU is rated at 18 Amps per rail. Manaheim
I checked with the card manufacturer and they said that my power supply was MORE than sufficient. I also got a much more powerful PS just to give it a go... same result.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted October 30, 2007 Corsair Employees Share Posted October 30, 2007 Let's get them replaced, please use the On Line RMA Request Form and we will be happy to replace them.
Manaheim
Actually, I've had about 5 sets of them now. Same result. I've actually replaced every component in the machine including the motherboard with no success.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted October 31, 2007 Corsair Employees Share Posted October 31, 2007 That would suggest some other problem, what components have not be changed? In other words if you have been using this same PSU all along I would suggest trying another a bit bigger better brand if possible and or see if a friend can help you test some of the components in a known working system to help you isolate the problem. But all of our modules are tested on a MB at the rated speed before they leave the factory and getting that many memory problems with different memory would suggest some other issue. I would suggest calling out tech support and we can try and help you isolate the problem.
Manaheim
Yeah, that's just it. EVERYTHING has been replaced at least once. I even swapped cases at one point just to rule out the absolutely impossible. I've gone as far as swapping all cables and even the DVD drive. Everything. Even the PSU. Even the motherboard. When I have spoken to your tech support, they said that they have tested the ram with the P5 series, but NOT specifically the P5KC. The gentleman I spoke with one of the times said [para] "It's the same chipset, so it should be fine." I believe he was referring to the Intel chipset. If I look on your website and go to the P5KC list of approved RAM, all I see are DDR3 chipsets... NO DDR2 at ALL. That somewhat supports the "we have not tested it" assertion. It's interesting to note that NO major memory manufacturer lists any DDR2 ram as working with this board. I don't know if it's just that they haven't tested it, or it outright doesn't work. Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted October 31, 2007 Corsair Employees Share Posted October 31, 2007 We have tested other variants of that MB but not the plain P5KC as I know of. If you have went threw that many modules I would may be try DDR3 memory instead.
Manaheim
Yeah, I haven't gone DDR3 yet simply because it wasn't my intent to move right to the newer (and far more expensive) memory technology. I don't suppose Corsair has a "have mercy upon their devoted but terribly frustrated customers" discount plan, do they? :)
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted October 31, 2007 Corsair Employees Share Posted October 31, 2007 If you do a search for that MB on ASUS's support site there is a know issue with DDR2 it would appear.
Manaheim
At least two of those threads are from me. (I am "Russo" on that board.) I have yet to see ASUS acknowledge the issue, however. If they did, that would certainly help as it would at least say "Ok, we know about this and will fix it."
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted October 31, 2007 Corsair Employees Share Posted October 31, 2007 Have you called their Tech Support? And have you tried setting the memory to DDR800?
Manaheim
Yes, I've spoken with them numerous times and set the speed to ddr800 with no success.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted October 31, 2007 Corsair Employees Share Posted October 31, 2007 I would test them in another MB if you can but that would suggest there is some other problem is all I can tell you at this point. Sorry!
