special_k
I think I will buy some of this PSUs (my system is not hungry for power so both are enough), but I would like to know which is more silent becouse that is main factor becouse Im buying Corsair. And how much rpm does the fan in this PSUs when PSU is in idle? and is it possible to know when will VX450 come to Croatia?
EliteKiller
21dB should be around 1000RPM http://www.pcper.com/article.php?aid=438&type=expert&pid=6 Below 400W output and 30°C inlet air temperature, the VX450W PSU is very quiet – virtually silent. Temperatures gradually build as the load increases and above 400W, the cooling fan speeds up to where it became noticeable, but not loud. Even at full load with relatively warm inlet air, the PSU wasn’t really loud. The Corsair VX450W power supply would be a great choice for anyone building a modest home theater PC or concerned with noise in general. http://www.corsair.com/_images/charts/vx450w_noise.jpg http://www.corsair.com/_images/charts/hx_noise_levels_graph_399x302.gif
special_k
1000rpm is far from not audible... I can hear anything above 750rpm...(speaking of 120mm fans)
EliteKiller
If that's the case then get a fanless psu like the Zen 400W if you're anal about the slightest noise from a quiet psu.
special_k
so, which PSU is more silent? VX450 or HX520?
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted August 14, 2007 Corsair Employees Share Posted August 14, 2007 HX520w http://www.corsair.com/_images/charts/hx_noise_levels_graph_399x302.gif VX450w http://www.corsair.com/_images/charts/vx450w_noise.jpg
special_k
Yes I've seen this pictures, but Im asking my questions becouse in reviews of this PSUs it was written that 520HX uses high speed adda fan while VX450 uses medium speed adda fan, and graphs says different things (19.5db for HX520 and 21.5db for VX450)
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted August 14, 2007 Corsair Employees Share Posted August 14, 2007 Its hard to answer as it will depend on the load, but the HX series should be more quiet than the VX series.
EliteKiller
Regardless of the ADDA fans specs, both the Corsair HX & VX use a quality fan controller to keep the noise and rpms to a minimum. Until SPCR does a review of the VX450 I suppose you'll get mixed feedback on which one is actually quieter.
EliteKiller
SPCR reviews the VX450: http://www.silentpcreview.com/article751-page5.html http://img216.imageshack.us/img216/1203/spcrsplik8.jpg The above comparison table should not be taken as an absolute. It shows sound pressure levels recorded on SPCR's test platform. The ambient temperature varies a bit, in a range of 20~23°C, and some of the PSUs may have the small advantage of lower ambient temperature during testing. This can help lower the overall noise curve, and more importantly, increase the power level at which the noise starts getting seriously louder. Still, at higher power levels, the temperature in the test box is determined mostly by the load. In any case, in the above test data, several models are about equally quiet up to ~200W load. But only the Corsair HX series has lower measured SPL at 300W. Above 300W, the HX and most other models remain quieter than the VX450W.
