2 x TWIN2X2048 - 6400C4 not working in P5K

Recommended Posts

i have bought a new computer (in parts) the day before yesterday.

Now i am facing problems with the RAM.

First off the specs of the new system:

- Asus P5K Motherboard

- Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600

- 2 x TWIN2 X 2048 - 6400C4 (means 2 kits with 2 1024mb ram modules each = 4 ram modules with a total of 4gig ram)

- 550w powersupply

- geforce 8800gts

- 2 x 500gig hard drive

ok now the problem:

The computer will not run if i put in more than 2 ram modules. If i put in 3 or 4 it tries to start, shuts itself down right away, makes another attempt and just runs the fans and nothing else.

So it seems like there is not enough power to start up 3 or more ram modules.

I tried adjusting frequency and timing control in the bios.

I put frequency to 800 and timing control to 4-4-4-12 but it still does not work. Any ideas how to fix this?
