Crosshair and Corsair 8500 C5

Coupe

Recommended Posts

Well glad to say I just got the pair of modules in the mail today and... It didn't turn out well.

I noticed one heatsink on one module seemed to be loose. I took it out of the plastic case and the heatsink fell to the floor. No big deal just got to re attach it right? Well now I notice that one of the tiny chips are stuck to the heatsink.

I'm not even going to try it I know this module is busted. *sigh* look like I'm going to have to wait again for another RMA. :brick:

*Edit*

Well now it gets even worse. I put the one good RMA module in the computer and it booted up. I went straight to the bios and I set the DDR Voltage to 2.2v. Well it rebooted and froze black screen. I tried to turn it off and start it up. Now instead of giving me the long and 2 short beeps. It starts up Fan spins HD turns then all of a sudden it just turns off.

I tried to load up the old memory modules to try and get the old 1 long 2 short beeps and it just starts spins and shuts off in a matter of 5-7 seconds.

I tried to clear the CMOS and tried the RMA then the old bad one (the other bad one not the one I used originally if the 2.2v fried that one too) and nothing works it just turns off within 7 seconds. I have been checking the internet and I seem to notice similar problems with Crosshair and 8500-c5's (including the one's w/ the complex heatink and fan modules C5DF I think).

I also tried taking all the RAM modules out and it still turns off within 7 seconds. I think now the board is fried. I have a 700W Thermaltake PSU. Cost me almost $200, so I know its a quality supply.

I have the latest bios and I have been building computers since I am about 12-13, so I am careful and experienced. I just pray I do not have to RMA this MB again too. I don't want to give a bad word on these modules. My friend has a set and uses it with his ASUS and is C2D Extreme and he overclocks like mad and it runs great. I am think that this crosshair and these corsair (THEY RHYME FOR GOODNESS SAKES) are oil and water.

HELP PLEASE! :greencry:

P.S. The whole time it says Check DRAM on the LCD post on the back of the MB.

I have a BFG 800W which cost $230 bucks! It failed inside of two weeks?

Had to RMA, and the new one has been fine.

Don't assume because it's a big name like Thermaltake or Corsair it's perfect!

Shutting off like that really does sound like a PS issue, at least most of the ones I've been through. For some reason, they love to die when you power them off & on to many times in a short period of time.

Just so you guys know. Corsair is not one of those good luck with your problems.

As I explained above I have been having a hell of a problem with my computer. I spoke Jeff from the tech support line. He was extremely helpful and provided me with valuable information that I did not know could affect the situation.

He said because you have replaced you MB and your RAM it cannot be that problem. Or its very unlikely. He said it is a good possibility it is the CPU. I did not understand because you can set the CPU and DDR Voltage separately. He informed me that the CPU has a memory controller built inside and can be causing the problems. WOW I never knew that. I don't know if its just AMD or this core, but I never knew that at all. GREAT info. Does that mean I'm a newb?

I spoke with Kim from the service department and when she wasn't able to help me immediately because of my unique problem, instead of guessing, she immediately got me help from another representative, Joann. Not only did Joann agree to send me out another set of modules immediately without having to pay the cross shipment price. They also did other great unexpected things to make this entire process as pain free as possible.

I must say RAM GUY, this is the best customer experience I have ever had in my life. Extremely accommodating, professional, quick to answer and resolve issues ASAP.

You have a Corsair Customer for life!

Thank you for taking the time to let me know, and we have a great team of people and we all do our best to treat people like we would want to be treated if the tides were reversed. Thank you again I will let the respective supervisor know. And please let us know how you make out when you get the new modules.

I'm really at my wits end. I get the CPU (its the wrong one btw a 3800+ X2 64 instead of a 4600+ X2 64 GG AMD RMA department) and it works @ the 2.2 volts for the RAM. I reconfigure my computer and I want to reinstall my sound drivers.

I uninstall them and I'm going to reboot and guess what. It reboots and I get no display. Then I try to clear the bios and it just powers on for 3-5 seconds then turns off. I dunno what the hell is causing the CPU/RAM/MB to fry, but I am so tired of this crap I can barely think. Please if you guys can think of anything.

Please try and clear the BIOS and I would un-plug the system power and remove the battery for about 30 Min and clear the BIOS and then with just one module at a time see if ti will run and post at DDR800, don't over clock your system till its stable and working.

These modules have been tested with your motherboard and are definitely compatible. However if you would like to find out whether an exchange might be possible, please contact our customer service at 888-222-4346 and dial "0" or (510) 657-8747.

I would like my RMA canceled for my Corsair 8500 c5.

I got a new Asus Crosshair and I went out and bought an AMD 6000+.

Everything is working great @ 2.1v!!

Apparently, the newest MOBO bios update has 1066 MHz selectable, but when I try it the frequency goes down to 400 MHz. It works fine when I set it @ 800 MHz. The difference between 800 and 1066 is negligible anyway. If you have any input as to how to resolve this; although, I am thinking this is a mobo problem.

Anyway you customer support is exemplary and I will continue all my purchases through you!

My thought process is that, although the RAM was failing it was not the cause of the problem. I am a little confused as to what really happened.

I would suggest over clocking the CPU and see how high you can the the memory to over clocking the CPU

Overclocking brings a tear to my eye! Who would of thought that we would be doing that?

Anyway I did bump up the FSB to 205 MHz, but isn't the memory clock independant from FSB?
