How many modules can I use?

Dear all,

I have an Intel DG965WH, which I built last year with one stick of 1GB DDR2-533 (PC2-4200) VS1GB533D2 RAM. I now want to updgrade to 3GB of RAM. Having read the MOBO manual (http://download.intel.com/design/motherbd/wh/D5600801US.pdf), there are discriptions of different combinations but nothing to state explicitly that 3 * 1GB sticks are OK (of the same type of course - I would simply add another 2 * 1GB of what I have already). What are the 'rules' on odd/even numbers of modules and varying size of each module? Are there performance benefits to having 3 * 1GB as opposed to 1 * 2GB + 1 * 1GB?

3GB really would be best. My commit charge is always between 2-3GB and I don't want to spend extra on a fourth module. Besides I have read in a MS KB article that 32-bit Vista will not see more than about 3.12GB anyway.

If you don't recommend 3 modules, would it be better to buy an (identical spec) 2GB module and pair that with my 1GB?
