Bad CMX1024-3200C2PT

Recommended Posts

I bought 4G of CMX1024-3200C2PT a little over a year ago. This is two sets of the TwinX memory, all four sticks are exactly the same. I know you cannot mix and match memory in the four channels so I was sure to get all the same. I installed the memory and the system was running like a dream. I set the voltage (2.75) and the timings (2-3-3-6) and I was golden.

Fast forward to yesterday... my computer started giving me some read/write errors like "The instruction at "0x028ab8cb" referenced memory at "0x037c48e0". The memory could not be "read". I'd get the write variety too. Needless to say, my computer was not happy with me.

Long story short, I ran Memtest on my memory (one stick at a time) and found that one of the four modules has gone bad. Memtest gave red error messages immediately upon start of the test... saw no need to continue the test to the end. One thing I did note is that the BIOS has reset my timings to 3-3-3-8 and 2.625V.

I've since taken out the offending module and its partner (and corrected the BIOS settings) and my system is back up and running.

Since the RAM module was a pair, do I need to send both of them back to corsair?
