Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted July 17, 2007 Corsair Employees Share Posted July 17, 2007 I would suggest using Twin2x4096-6400C5DHX with this MB, if you install four modules you will be limited to DDR667. And all of the modules would need to be matched.

Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted July 19, 2007 Corsair Employees Share Posted July 19, 2007 That is not exactly what I said, please go back and read it again. And when you install 4 modules as I said they will need to slow the memory down in order to address all of the memory, this is a chipset/memory controller limitation not a memory limitation. And I gave the part # that would run at DDR800 with 4 Gig of memory installed.
plockett
Sorry to dig up a old thread but I have a couple of questions on this topic. I have just bought a similar setup, so I have the ABIT IN9 32X-MAX with 4x TWIN2X2048-6400C4DHX installed. Now I understand that for the memory SLI to work I would need to clock these chips down to DDR667 is this correct? If that was the case what roughly (in percentage terms) would that mean to loss in performance? Secondly I have just purchased a BFG NVIDIA nForce 680I SLI and have yet to purchase memory for it and from the post you suggest that the Twin2x4096-6400C5DHX would be a better option to get 4GB with the ABIT board would that be true for this MB too? Finally I was looking at the memory configurator and there is no mention on the Twin2x4096-6400C5DHX just the QUAD2X4096-6400C5DHX, is this same thing or am I missing the module you are referring to on the memory configurator page (looked up and down the list a few times)? Thanks in advance.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted August 14, 2007 Corsair Employees Share Posted August 14, 2007 SLI memory setting will not work with these modules and I would suggest it be Disable with 4 modules. Twin2x4096-6400C5DHX would be a better option Yes that is correct if you want 4 Gig of memory. Finally I was looking at the memory configurator and there is no mention on the Twin2x4096-6400C5DHX just the QUAD2X4096-6400C5DHX, is this same thing or am I missing the module you are referring to on the memory configurator page (looked up and down the list a few times)? It just that those modules have not been added yet.
StressedOutCat
hi.. i got the same motherboard with 2 x Twin2x4096-6400C5DHX also 2 xfx 8800 gts 320mb cards.. with windows vista.. ( aldo vista 64bit is installed it does reboot on its own very often ) so my question is .. is it or is it possible 2 have the 8gb running at 800mhz with sli ? or will it only work at 8gb at 667mhz.. and without the sli ? Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted October 22, 2007 Corsair Employees Share Posted October 22, 2007 Its possible but I posted this previously and it answers these questions! 1. Can the Asus board use all memory slots up to 8mb and at 800MHz? A: Yes but its hit and miss and DDR667 would be suggested with more than two modules installed on most MB's 2. If not what is the maximum memory configuration? A: See Above! 3. Are most of these problems related to 680i chipset or Asus? A: NO just a limitation! 4. Do you feel they will be resolved as this chipset and MOBO matures? A: It's just a chipset/Memory controller limitation. 5. Can 800MHz memory be set to run at 667 and will that help? A: And what is suggested! 6. Is memory purchased above OK for this MOBO? A: Yes and will run great just with 4 modules you may need to set the memory frequency at DDR667! 7. Is there another MOBO out here that is SLI ready without these kind of problems? A: Again it's hit and miss, there is more loading on the system and slowing the memory down is common when the system is fully loaded and nothing new. This has been an issue all along, its just that until recently there were no modules widely available to do it.
StressedOutCat
thanks again for the quick reply but the system still seems to randomly reboot in windows vista 64bit ( even with just 4gb of Twin2x4096-6400C5DHX ) not sure what am doing wrong I got a: intel QX6850 Abit IN9 32X-MAX WIFI 2 x XFX 8800GTS 320MB ( sli ) Coolermaster 1000W 2 x Twin2x4096-6400C5DHX ( 8 gb total ..) and 2 raptor x 150gb in raid 0 the ram i set 5-5-5-18 2.0V at 800mhz ( and 4gb as suggested not 8bg ) so any tips would be welcome ( since vista 64bit still reboots on its own ) also is the timing for 8gb at 667mhz diffrent than at 4gb at 800mhz ? and is it possible to use 6gb (3 modules) at 800mhz ? thanks again for the reply
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted October 23, 2007 Corsair Employees Share Posted October 23, 2007 Did you run http://www.memtest.org? Please do that as I cannot help you with a Windows problem. Other than did you install the patch for 3 Gig or more of memory for Windows Vista?
