2x2GB (TWIN2X4096) or 4x1GB (QUAD2X4096)

Hy Ram Guy!

May I could have your gentle advice for building my new Intel Quad system? :biggrin: Searched the forum for quite a long time but did not find any answer to that question..

What would you recommend for a DDR2 Gigabyte GA-P35-DQ6 (or the soon to be released GA-X38-DQ6 with X38 chipset) packed with 4GB and gentle overclocking?

4x 1024MB Module -> QUAD2X4096-6400C5DHX

vs.

2x 2048MB Module -> TWIN2X4096-6400C5DHX

So dear Ram Guy, if you were me, what would you pick up?

Thanks in advance!

TWIN2X4096-6400C5DHX would provide a option to upgrade later on.

Do you know of any MB/CPU/chipset combination that will not take a memory bandwidth hit if you install two sets of TWIN2X4096-6400C5DHX?

I'd like to build a new system this fall and really don't want to buy an additional 4gb of ram if maintaining memory bandwidth is not possible.

I'll be running XP pro 64-bit version so addressing the ram from the OS should not be an issue.

For overclocking, the few DIMMs you have installed, the better (at least until a cold day in hell comes and we're all cursed with FB-DIMMs, hope that day never comes!)...

I've had four 1GB modules in a P5B Deluxe on multiple occasions at DDR2-800 speeds with no performance hit. YMMV.
