Flash Drives - A consumers perspective

Flash memory is so cheap nowadays, it's time to start focusing on features. I can see that Corsair is taking steps in this direction - just hoping someone will read this and move a bit further. ;)

So what are the key features that I look for in a flash drive?

1. Waterproof (can it survive a wash cycle?)

2. Speed

3. Capacity

4. Reliability

5. Cap that will not get lost

6. Solid keychain hole

7. Looks

8. Compact

9. Sturdiness

10. Quick plug-in ability

Voyager: ~1, 2, 3, 4, 7, 9, 10

Survivor: 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 9

Everyone will weight these differently, most will only realize some of these issues after they buy the drive. That still affects your bottom-line through WOM. However this should basically cover all issues consumers would look for in a flash drive.

For me, the first 6 are make-or-break and it is disappointing, because I see the potential to have a near "perfect" drive with the combination of the two.

What you could do to improve the Voyager series: flip out connector (see Imation). Solid, steel wire inside the rubber keychain hole attached to the interior frame. Narrower rubber housing.

What you could do to improve the Survivor series: GT version.
