Gigabyte GA-N650SLI-DS4 + XMS26400C4

Recommended Posts

I helped a mate buy a new computer consisting of:

Gigabyte GA-N650SLI-DS4 m/b (Bios F5)

2gb XMS2-6400C4 Twin kit (2 x 1GB)

Intel Core2Duo E6600

600W power supply

We are having major problems with it. It seems that when the system is cold it will give fairly random blue screens at boot up - once you leave the system on for a while it behaves fairly well but blue screens every now and then or CTD's out of games.

Ramguy can you please recommend the settings I should use for this memory / motherboard combo ? The stupid bios only gives +/- not actual readings.

We have run the system with both Vista 32-bit and Windows 2000 with the same problems - so hoping it's BIOS config before RMA path.

One of the blue screens we get is something like "unable to read from memory" or similar.

Thanks - Paul

Please make sure that you have the latest Bios version and then load setup/optimized defaults and set the Dim Voltage to 2.0 volts (+.2 Volts W/Giga-Byte) and then set the timings manually to the tested settings for the specific module you have, or if you have Value Select "BY SPD" and then test the module/'s one at a time with http://www.memtest.org! If you still get errors, please follow the link in my signature “I think I have a bad part!” and we will be happy to replace them or it! However, if you get errors with both modules that would suggest some other problem and I would test them in another system or MB to be sure. In addition, with some MB's (Mostly ASUS) you have to disable legacy USB in the bios when running any memory test.
