TWINX1024-3200XL errors in memtest

Recommended Posts

hi RAM Guy,

my matched pair of 2x CMX512-3200XL shows errors when testing with memtest86+ v1.70 at 2,8V and with 166mhz at 2-2-2-5-1T and also at 182mhz at 2-2-2-5-1T. Motherboard is an Asus A7N8X, possible ram voltage is 2,6, 2,7, or 2,8 so I think 2,8V should be correct. I do not have a cpu with fsb200mhz so I can't test the ram at 400mhz but I think when it has errors at 182mhz it will also have errors at 200mhz. If so I would like to have my pair of ram exchanged via rma procedure. It seems that only one ram has errors, but I like to have a new matched pair of CMX512-3200XL in return. I hope this is no problem.

the 3200XL modules aren't mentioned on the corsair website anymore. so do you still have this ram for rma exchanges? or will I get a different ram in exchange? I do not hope so ...

attached 3 photos of the tests.

please let me know.

regards,

michael

cpu fsb = 166 * 11 = 1826mhz; 1,65v athlon xp 2500

ram = 166mhz, 2,8v 2-2-2-5-1T (also tested on 182mhz); 3200XL should work at 400mhz with 2-2-2-5-1T

my other ram TWINX1024-2700C2 works perfectly on 166 or 182 mhz with 2,5-3-3-7-1T without errors at 2,6v and the same cpu settings. I used the same mobo ram slots. lowering the voltage for 3200xl brings the same memtest errors.

so everything should work. also only 1 of the 2 rams is generating errors. one ram is running without problems in single channel at 166 or 182 mhz with 2-2-2-5-1T. In my opinion one ram is defective.

do you need any further information?

There is no command Rate setting on this MB so what are you setting to 1T?

And I would just load setup defaults and then set these settings and test the system module with http://www.memtest.org.

CPU Freq: 166 MHz

System Performance: User Define

Memory Frequency: 100%

Dim Voltage to 2.7 Volts

Resulting Frequency: 166MHz

Memory Timings: Manual/User Define

SDRAM CAS Latency: 2T

SDRAM RAS to CAS Delay (tRCD): 2T

SDRAM Row Precharge (tRP): 2T

SDRAM Active to Precharge Delay (tRAS): 5T

you are right. there is no command rate setting in the bios. the ram is running at 1T. this shows everest. this is what I wanted to say ...

as I wrote before I tested the ram with cpu freq 166, memory 100% = 166. 2,8v and also on 2,7v.

SDRAM CAS Latency: 2T

SDRAM RAS to CAS Delay (tRCD): 2T

SDRAM Row Precharge (tRP): 2T

SDRAM Active to Precharge Delay (tRAS): 5T

all 2 voltage setups bring memtest errors. the ram is set up correct in my bios with above settings and also my cpu is set up correct. my cpu is running since years together with 3200c2 modules at 166mhz and also works on 182mhz (ram=100%) with the same settings without any problems. so there is no setup problem here.

I also had errors (directly after a few seconds) when running prime95 in windows with fsb=100%ram=166 at 2-2-2-5 with the 3200XL modules at 2,8v. test was "blend" = lots of ram tested.

one module on its owns runs without errors in memtest at 166, 2-2-2-5 and 2,8v and also on 182mhz ... the other one generates errors.
