Asus M2NPV-VM and TWIN2X4096-6400C5DHX

Hi all,

I have bought the Asus M2NPV-VM motherboard, and ordered the TWIN2X4096-6400C5DHX but it hasn't arrived yet. Reading the following text in the motherboard manual has me worried:

"This motherboard doesn't support memory modules made up of 128MB chips or double sided x16 memory modules."

Does this mean I can't use the memory I have ordered, which I believe is made up of 128MB x 8 chips?

I wanted the TWIN2X4096-6400C5DHX memory (2x2GB) so that I can later add another 2x2GB to give 8GB total. How can I eventually get 8GB if I can't use 128MBx8 or 64MBx16?

As a compromise, would the QUAD2X4096-6400C5DHX memory (4x1GB) be a better choice?

Sorry for posting this rather than using the memory configurator, but my motherboard doesn't seem to be listed there, and I'm rather stuck about which memory to use. Browsing other people's problems with the M2NPV-VM isn't giving me a good feeling about it!

Thanks in advance,

DJK

Dual channel memory architecture

4 x 240-pin DIMM, support max. 8GB DDR2 800/667/533 ECC and non-ECC,un-buffered memory

Don't worry it will support those modules, I think they just copied the manual from another MB.

Hi,

Thanks for the fast and confidence-building reply. It seems then that I have nothing to worry about?

Just a couple more things:

Has anyone out there ever actually used this RAM with this mobo before? Successfully or unsuccessfully?

Will it work OK at 1.9V? (the motherboard manual seems to imply this is the maximum) or should it be set to AUTO in the BIOS?

[edit] I just checked the .pdf spec and it says 1.8V. Was this updated in the last couple of weeks?

Thanks again,

DJK
