XMS2 PC 8500RAM 1GB bad part?

I recently built my PC and when I had my 4gb of the above RAM installed it would bluescreen when trying to install Vista. Another time the monitor wouldn't even get signal. I put on one stick and it worked fine so I tried another, worked, then another..which worked. When putting in the 4th it failed again. I tried moving one of the good sticks to the 4th RAM slot to see if it was the slot, it worked fine. When I replaced one of the 3 good sticks with the 'bad' one it bluescreened again.

I believe I have ascertained that I have one stick of bad RAM. I wanted to check here to get any suggestions before requesting a RMA.

Hmm what settings exactly? I changed nothing in the BIOS, it's all default. As for performance... I'm not exactly sure which settings you're referring to, I havent really tweaked any settings at all in Vista.

Some vista installations require a patch for 4GB to work.

Install on 2GB then plug in the extra module/s (that work, memtest is a bootable memory test for ascertaining which module is dead if one is).

If all memory modules work vista will "dial home" and get the patch you need.
