Blue Screen - ASUS P5N32-E SLI Plus : CM2X1024-6400C4

Check out my computer specs for a full idea of what I have...but here is my problem...

So I built the computer from scratch and it has been running perfectly for about a month now. I have Vista Business Premium 32-bit installed for an OS.

Yesterday, while browsing Slashdot and Tom's Hardware I noticed that they both recommended 4GB to keep Vista happy and running perfectly. I saw that my RAM was on sale and Newegg so I thought I would pick up another set of 1GB XMS2 chips.

I received it today, installed it, it posts and gets into windows (most of the time) but blue screens at about ~2minutes in.

I take out the extra two pieces of RAM I got, and the computer works perfect. I trade the "old" sticks for the new "sticks" and the computer works perfect. As soon as I put the extra set in, it blue screens and memory dumps. I did some searching and found a Vista patch, but that did not help.

I was wondering if I have to manually set up the RAM in the bios or what is going on...

Any ideas?!?!

Thanks!

Your first post was at 11:30 PM last night and I am sorry it may take up to 24 hours for me to reply to a post. Monday Threw Friday excluding holidays.

With four modules I would suggest setting the memory frequency at DDR667 and set the memory Voltage to 2.0 Volts, and you need to go to http://www.microsoft.com/technet and check for a patch for running 3 or more gig with Windows Vista.

Sorry about that, used to busy forums :)

I downloaded and installed the Microsoft patch to no avail. I also tried these settings:

Sli ready: Disabled(This setting has nothing to do with your graphics configuration)

Memory Voltage: 1.9v

1.2V HT: 1.25v

NB Core Voltage: 1.5v

SB Core Voltage: 1.55v

CPU VTT Voltage: 1.25v

TCL: 5

TRCD: 5

TRP: 5

TRAS: 12

Command Per Clock: 2

TRC: 24

But...

I tried these settings and received three different blue screens...

1st: DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_THAN_OR_EQUAL, dxgkrnl.sys

2nd: storport.sys (this was even in safe-mode)

3rd: Luafv.sys (booted normally, reset BIOS to default settings)

Took out the last pair, has been working great now for two hours. Maybe this RAM is bad after all? Can Vista 32-bit handle this RAM? Wrong speed settings?

I see you have it as 5 5 5 12 and on the RAM itself it says 4 4 4 12, could that be the problem?

I just do not understand how two sticks can work great, but TONS of problems when I put in two more of the EXACT same type. Weird! :D

Thanks agian!

I did another memtest and this time I came up with a TREMENDOUS amount of errors...

Test 5: 25255 errors

Test 7: 97 errors

Test 8: 21 errors

Think this set of ram is bad?

If so, should I RMA it through you?

Thanks again!

What are the exact BIOS settings you have set for both CPU and memory?

And you need to make sure CPC or Command Rate is set to 2t as well.

I put in those settings in the above post you gave me, and it continued to blue screen so I restored default bios settings, took out the 2GB and have been that way since.

What settings would you like me to try?

Thanks again!

What are you setting the memory frequency to with 4 modules? Should be set to DDR667! And the settings should be like this:

Memory Voltage: 2.0v

1.2V HT: BIOS Default

NB Core Voltage: 1.5v (+.1 from Default)

SB Core Voltage: BIOS Default

CPU VTT Voltage: 1.25v (+.1 from Default)

TCL: 5

TRCD: 5

TRP: 5

TRAS: 15

Command Per Clock: 2

TRC: 28

Ok. The all the modules work if they are in two slots, but soon as I add either of the pairs to make the 4GB I get a tremendous amounts of blue screens still.

What settings should I try? How do I downclock the memory?

Thanks again RAM guy!

The memory frequency is listed in your BIOS usually under Frequency and Voltage control, I think ASUS calls it Jumper Free Configuration, but I would check with the MB maker if you can not get the user manual to explain the settings for you. And I posted the settings previously. You are welcome to call our Tech support and we will try to help you with your BIOS 800-205-7657 after 8:30 AM Pacific Time tomorrow, but please be in front of your system.

I found the voltage control finally, you have to set the bios to manual overclocking instead of letting AI do it for you (by %) and put in all the settings you gave me. So far so good! I think it is solved!!!!

Now I just need to figure out how to get my cpu overclock back up to 5% :)

Thanks again RAM GUY!
