Bad PC5300

Recommended Posts

I purchased a 1GB Stick of Corsair Value Select (667 mhz) for my COMPAL HEL80 laptop about a month ago. Everything was fine for about two weeks and then I started having issues with blue screens related to MEMORY MANAGEMENT or IRQ_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL. Figuring that since the RAM was fine for about two weeks, it wasn't really under my suspiscion. But after about two weeks of trouble shooting I broke down to finally removing the RAM from the computer and now the machine is working perfectly. How shall I proceed with my replacement?

Update:

So I was actually able to get a replacement stick from the retailer. I installed it, and again, about two weeks with no issues. But now I'm back to the same problems. The new module is exactly the same as the older one. The model number on both modules reads VS1GSDS667D2. The model number on the newer one is in smaller print. That's the only identifiable difference I can detect.

Both modules I ordered from the same retailer. I started with a barebones system.

Any further thoughts?

Please make sure that you have the latest BIOS and load setup defaults, and then test the module/modules one at a time with http://www.memtest.org! If you still get errors, please follow the link in my signature “I think I have a bad part!” and we will be happy to replace them or it! However, if you get errors with both modules that would suggest some other problem and I would test them in another system or MB to be sure.

Ok, so I did as you asked. Memtest with each, and with both. No errors found, letting it run pretty much all night each time. I'm rather stumped. Also, although I have the same part number, they are actually different. The newer module has chips which are substantially smaller than that of the older one. Could there be a slight difference in the modules, causing me my problems?

Also, I have the latest BIOS update, that was the very first thing I checked.
