Flash Voyager GT 2GB (Mac OSX) … Speed?

Recommended Posts

I just bought this kind of nice hardware - but I'm confused about the real-life speed. When simply copying a 400MB-File from and to the stick (on Mac OSX or Windows XP) I get between 10 MByte/s until 15 MByte/s. Not 25-30 MByte as described on the web elsewhere … :[pouts:

Then I run Xbench on Mac OSX with the Disk Test. It simulates this real-life speeds as follows:

Disk Test 4.04

Sequential 4.63

Uncached Write 1.82 1.12 MB/sec [4K blocks]

Uncached Write 19.87 11.24 MB/sec [256K blocks]

Uncached Read 4.44 1.30 MB/sec [4K blocks]

Uncached Read 24.82 12.48 MB/sec [256K blocks]

Random 3.58

Uncached Write 0.98 0.10 MB/sec [4K blocks]

Uncached Write 13.89 4.45 MB/sec [256K blocks]

Uncached Read 143.97 1.02 MB/sec [4K blocks]

Uncached Read 64.91 12.04 MB/sec [256K blocks]

So what happened with the "fast speed" of this stick - it should be double the speed, or am I wrong?

Of course I tested it with large-file-copies on Mac and Windows. Using Explorer (Win) or Finder (Mac) - I allways get 10-15MB/sec (read/write).

I used also HDtach (from the japanese site) - there it gives 25000-27000 … but thats not "real life when really copying files around - then it get it much slower. When formating as FAT32 or Mac Extended the speed is quite the same. So the format seems not the problem.

Did I made something wrong?
