XM2S 1066 ram won't post at 1066mhz

I recently built my new system, including GA-965P-DS3 (rev 3.3) motherboard and Corsair XM2S-8500 memory, but I've never been able to get the machine to POST with memory set to 1066 mhz. If I set memory to 800 or 888mhz it's fine though. I'm running the timings at 5-5-5-15, as recommended.

Memory is running in dual channel mode.

I have checked the FAQ's and done a search of the forums but can't think what else to try, apart from maybe running it in single channel?

Mobo has latest BIOS too.

edit: Full system specs are:

Windows Vista Ultimate Edition

Gigabyte GA 965P DS3 rev 3.3

Core2 Duo E6300

XTX GeForce 8800 GTS XT (550/1700MHz)

2 x 1Gb Corsair 1066MHz

Samsung 160Gb SATA 7200rpm HD

That is about normal for this chipset, it will top out about 900-1030 MHz at the extreme with the right over clock able CPU. And did you set the memory Voltage to 2.2 Volts?

thanks, I'm not so worried if that's pretty normal, I just thought I was missing something.

I tried try upping the vdimm by +0.3v , but the sticks were getting quite toasty, so I'll just keep running it at 888mhz and stock voltage.
