Compatibility issue of Compaq nx9000 and Corsair VS512SDS333

Hi,

I have just bought a pair of Corsair VS512SDS333 512 MB RAM DDR 333 for the purpose of upgrading my Compaq nx9000 to the max allowable 1G memory.

However, after installing the RAM, the notebook cannot boot up, i.e the hardisk does not spin and the screen is blank.

I have already checked from Corsair and other relevant sites that Compaq nx9000 should support this memory module VS512SDS333.

Does any one have any idea what I have done wrong?

Thanks in advance.

Are you using a Celeron CPU? If so you might need to use VS512SDS-266 with this system, and I would check with Compaq to see if they have a new Bios for the NoteBook.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply. My nx9000 is with a Mobile Intel Pentium 4-M 2G processor.

And according to all the information that I came across, including Corsair website, it should support DDR 333.

Thanks in advance.

How do I configure my nx9000 to run the Corsair DDR 333 in 266 mode?

When I plugged my new DDR 333 RAM, the nx9000 just did not want to boot up. And there seemed to be no such option in the BIOS.

I have the exact same problem as the threadstarter. I also have a NX9000 laptop, with a P4 2Ghz, and I bought the Corsair RAM since it was recommended by this website. So far I am running 2x256MB modules, 1xPC266 and 1xPC333. They have always worked flawlessly together, and they will also both boot without troubles if I only use one of them, the PC333 module also working perfectly fine when using it on it's own.

Both my VS512SDS333 will not work at all on my laptop, neither when using only one of them, nor when using both. I tried using one corsair module together with my PC266 module as well, but in BIOS I would only get 256MB of ram, which is exactly the amount of the PC266 module. Doing the same with my PC333 256MB module had the same effect. I have already tried updating my BIOS as well, which had no effect either.

So I wonder, if there is any possibility to get this ram to run in my notebook, since I can't return it to the shop I bought it from.

Could this also be a compatibility issue? It seems odd that both modules would be broken.

The manufacturer does list both PC2100 and PC2700 memory up to a capacity of 512MB as compatible to this laptop though.

Most of the modules that are "guaranteed to work" seem to be 32x16, although I have found a few other 64x8 modules. The VS512SDS333 seem to be 64x8 as well. Could that be a problem?

Currently only the VS512SDS266 is 32x16. Please refer to your reseller for exchange, credit or refunds. In any case if your vendor cannot help you. You may attempt our Customer Service Department at 1-888-222-4346 and dial 0 in menu.

I too have the same problem with the Corsair Ram. Trying to upgrade a nx9010 to 1Gig using VS512SDS333. Tried several sticks still no boot with new ram, so I tend to believe it is a compatibility issue. The notebook currently has hynix modules in it. Any suggestions?
