Flash speed info needed/flash speed tool?

I'm writing a story that includes coverage of using the 8GB survivor for Vista Readyboost, and would very much like to know the speed rating for the flash memory chips in that device. Can anybody tell me? I've put in a call to Vivian Lien, but she's not answering her phone right now. Thanx!

Also, I've searched for but haven't found any kind of forensics tool that can look at flash and tell me about its physical characteristics. Is there anything like that available? Is there information encoded in the chips like unto the SPD data in regular memory modules? Please educate me!

Thanks again,

Ed I am sorry but you would need to speak with Vivian and the speed information thats available is posted on the web site for Flash products. Sorry!

But I would just use your own benchmarks to test and compare.

She called me on the phone after 6 PM this evening, bless her heart, and told me speed for the Survivor products isn't rated in terms of the old CD-ROM 150 KB/sec model but rather in terms of MB/sec for reading and writing. The reading number is 34 MB/sec which thus translates into 232X for reading, and the writing number is 28 MB/sec which translates into 191X for writing. That provides me with a basis for comparison with the way that other vendors do it, which is what I was seeking.

Hope others find this information helpful, too.

I repeat: does anybody know about any tools that inspect flash RAM and figure this kind of stuff out on the fly?

We use HD Tach or AKA HD Bench I will get a link to it tomorrow, please remind me if I don't post it by noon. They are in Japan if you want to search for them, sorry but I don't have the link at the moment.
