noobie
Hi, I'd like to know whether those Dominators are stable/safe at 2.4V for prolonged use like 24/7. I've been hearing reports that 2.4V is too high for RAMs and will deteriorate the chips overtime, to eventual death. Are these reports true? Thanks
Wired
Dominator Qualifications and Testing! Some Dominators are rated at that voltage and some are not. If they are, they have a lifetime warranty at that voltage. Enough said.
noobie
Yes I do know they carry lifetime warranty, but if I have to RMA them every few months or so because they're actually deteriorating overtime then it's still going to be a hassle. Would also like to hear from Corsair reps about this.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted April 27, 2007 Corsair Employees Share Posted April 27, 2007 As Wired stated they are rated at 2.4 Volts and if they ever fail we will replace them as long as you do not over volt them, and should that happen more than a time or two I would get the MB and or PSU checked, as that would suggest some other problem. rx7speed
I know this is a little old but it does relate is it that all dominator's are under warranty up to 2.4v? I was looking at this thread http://www.houseofhelp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=54052 and saw that only the 6400C3DF dominators are up to 2.4v the 8500 dominators are only 2.2v but that doesn't seem to make sense to me but then the 8888 are 2.4 and the 9136 and 10000 are both 2.1v. is this information correct for dominators or did the voltage ratings get messed up somewhere? any help woudl be nice and thank you
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted August 9, 2007 Corsair Employees Share Posted August 9, 2007 The Voltages are correct, the frequency is not the only setting for these modules some run at more aggressive settings and require more voltage to remain stable. rx7speed
understandable if the timings are different but even then some seem to share the same timings as well. like comparing the 9136c5d chip vs the 8500c5d. both have same timings through the board and the 9136 have higher frequency yet lower voltage max voltage? the biggest difference I see is the f ending the ones with the 2.4 voltage which I can understand for cooling reasons. So with this I'm curious if I have dominators are all covered up to 2.4 volts if I use the fan or would it only be covered up to the listed voltage there regardless of what I'm using for cooling? sorry I'm not trying to be pain ram guy just wondering. one other question is ram guy just one person or do a few help out with taking over the ram guy role? Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted August 10, 2007 Corsair Employees Share Posted August 10, 2007 All I can tell you would be that we speed bin the IC's before we mount them and then test for the intended speed on a MB at the rated settings. Although the IC's are all the same Micron D-9 sometimes you might get a lot that will run at Cas 4-4-4-12 at 1100 Mhz but the next lot might top out a lower frequency or they might not run at a specific setting no matter what Voltage they are set to.
