Timings/voltage for 4 gigs 8500C5D on a Striker Extreme

I was just curious if anyone has had much luck with getting 2 of the 2gig twinx 8500C5D to run at stock settings and speed? Or perhaps an underclocked ram setup(due to the memory controller on this particular board trying to access all 4 gigs at 1066Mhz). I just wanted to make sure of my settings before I install this memory and possibly fry it. Thanks in advance for any help.

Thanks for the quick reply! I was actually more curious as to what settings that people have found to be most stable (I know that mine might not be exactly the same, but it is a good place to start). I have actually been running memtest86+ 1.7 for about eleven hours with 4 gig set to 1066Mhz 5-5-5-15-2t@2.2V with no errors. I am going to let it run while I am at work (hooray for me) to see if any errors come up. Also, should I just use the default settings with memtest86? That's what I have been testing with. I really appreciate any help that I can get. I don't mind searching and reading other forum posts, but I haven't seen any that answer my questions for a rig that closely resembles mine. Thanks again, it is much appreciated!

edit: I actually set this rig up before my question as answered. If my settings could in any way damage my ram (even if memtest doesn't report any errors), I will change my settings.

I actually was able to tighten my settings to 5-4-4-15@2.2V and then ran memtest for about 7 hours with no errors.

The biggest problem that I have had with this mobo is that it seems to enjoy eating ram alive. I had to return my PC2-6400C3D for this, more loosely timed, faster Mhz memory. That was only after I had RMA'd four pairs of memory. The system would run great at 667Mhz with 4gigs timed at 3-4-3-9-2t@2.4V for about a week, then blam! It would start to fail memtest after about thirty minutes. While I was testing with two sticks I did not have the airflow fan installed, but once I increased the voltage and the amount of memory, I installed the fan and made sure that it had the proper voltage and speed using pc probeII. I just thought that I would update this so if anyone else was having any trouble, they might get some sort of help here. :

Even if I don't get any errors in memtest, should I downclock my memory to 800Mhz? I wouldn't think that this would be necessary but hey, I'm no RamGuy ;)

  • 1 month later...

2 gigs of 8500C5D runs fine on my Striker Extreme with the SE1102 BIOS flashed. Just now playing with the overclocking.

This is the 2nd Asus board however... the 1st one was very unstable... it would POST and then sometime between a minute to 2 hrs. later would just die... losing audio and video.
