Texas Jack
Today I bought a extra set of TWINX 1024MB PC3200 C2 PT. I had already a set of TWINX 1024MB PC3200 C2. After installing, the bios detects the ram as DDR333. After manually set this to DDR400 on timings 2-3-3-6 2T, my system runs stable. I have a motherboard MSI K8N NEO4-F, with a AMD X2 4200+ (stepping E4). Did a few test with 3Dmark2006, and no problems so far on the first sight. Just a little loss in points (~8-10 points less). The game STALKER runs now smoother then before (this was the main reason I bought a extra Gig). My 2 questions now are: 1) Can I chance the Command Rate to 1T with these four dimms? With the first set I always ran stable 2-3-3-6 1T, but I read on the internet that in case of using 4 dimms, you must use 2T. I'm a little carefull, so I don't break anything... 2) What's the technical difference between the 2 sets? The first set is C2 (black heatsink), and the new set is C2 PT (platium heatsink). Both of them are 2-3-3-6 latency's. Tonight I test my settings 2-3-3-6 2T with memtest86+ V1.70. I keep an update...
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted April 18, 2007 Corsair Employees Share Posted April 18, 2007 You would need to set the Command Rate to 2T with more than two modules installed. Command Rate is not really a memory setting and would be dependent on the make and model of MB and PSU and the specific CPU you have installed. You might look this setting up on http://www.rojakpot.com and get a better explanation. Please see What does C2, LL, PT, R or RE stand for in the part#? for you second question. However, the revision of the modules may be different and have different memory IC's
Texas Jack
Thx for the answer RAM guy, I will check it out. Last night I run memtest86+ V1.70, 10 full tests passed on periode of 7h30. No single error. My setting are DDR400 2-3-3-6 2T Dual Channel. When going to your second link, I read that C2 on amd must be on 2.5. In my case, with four modules, must I set this also to 2.5, or the test with memtest say's enough, and can I run stable on setting 2? I'm now going to do a new test with settings 2.5-3-3-6 2T, to see if in the same periode of 7h30, I do the same or more tests.
Garvin
A CAS of 2.5 was the recommended setting for certain older Amd processors (Athlon Xp's). Yours should be set at 2.
