Corsair TWINX2048C2+Corsair TWINX1024C2 failure

Hi

Yesterday, 3 of my 4 Corsair memory modules suddenly decided to die. I was just playing some BF2 when my computer died.

At the time of failure my memory modules where set like this on my ASUS A8N-SLI motherboard:

DIMMA1+DIMMB1:

Corsair TWINX2048-3200C2 DDR-DIMM 2048MB Kit w/two matched CMX1024-3200C2 DIMMs

DIMMA2+DIMMB2:

Corsair TWINX1024-3200C2 DDR-DIMM 1024MB Kit w/two matched CMX512-3200C2 DIMMs

This setup has been OK for years now.

After the failure I first thought it was the HD that died, so I tried to boot a LINUX CD. Still no good. I then decided to run a memory test from the LINUX CD. Test failed.

Afterwards I started removing all of the memory modules. I tried the following:

1. DIMMA1+DIMMB1:

Corsair TWINX2048-3200C2 DDR-DIMM 2048MB Kit w/two matched CMX1024-3200C2 DIMMs

Failed!

2. DIMMA1, only one Gig memory module (the one that was placed in DIMMA1 when the failure occured)

Corsair TWINX2048-3200C2 DDR-DIMM 2048MB Kit w/two matched CMX1024-3200C2 DIMMs

OK

3. DIMMA1, only the other Gig memory module

Corsair TWINX2048-3200C2 DDR-DIMM 2048MB Kit w/two matched CMX1024-3200C2 DIMMs

Failed!

4. DIMMA1+DIMMB1, two 512 modules:

Corsair TWINX1024-3200C2 DDR-DIMM 2048MB Kit w/two matched CMX1024-3200C2 DIMMs

Failed!

5. DIMMA1, one 512 module

Corsair TWINX1024-3200C2 DDR-DIMM 2048MB Kit w/two matched CMX1024-3200C2 DIMMs

Failed!

6. DIMMA1, the other 512 module

Corsair TWINX1024-3200C2 DDR-DIMM 2048MB Kit w/two matched CMX1024-3200C2 DIMMs

Failed!

7. DIMMA1+DIMA2, two 512 RAM from other vendor.

OK!

Conclusion:

Only one of the 1Gig modules work. The motherboard are OK, the system boots with my old 2x512 RAM from an other vendor.

Please tell me how to proceed to return these faulty modules.

Best regards

Hi

I use the default values for my BIOS. No OC when I've read that different RAM modules should not be OC'ed.

I used the RAM test that comes with the UBUNTU LINUX CD.

What indicates that there is another problem???

I am sorry but you cannot mix memory with this platform and when you change to 512 Meg modules or 1.0 Gig modules you would need to load setup defaults and then set the memory voltage to 2.75 Volts and set the tested settings and when you run http://www.memtest.org on this MB you need to disable legacy USB.

Here goes...

I've reinstalled BIOS 10.16, all set to default, except the mem voltage which were set to 2.75 as requested.

I still have the same problem with 3 out of 4 mem modules. And my cheap RAM yet again saves my day.

Sorry man, but my problems are related to the corsair memory modules.
