JDAM
I am considering purchasing TWIN2X1024-6400C4 so I can keep my system up while I RMA my TWIN2X2048-6400C4D. The question is can I leave in both the pairs once the RMA has been processed. Both pairs have the same timing and latency. My mother board is an EVGA 122-CK-NF67-T1. Buying another TWIN2X1024-6400C4D would be a waist because XP (32 bit) has a 4 Gig memory limit includes the video RAM and I plan on purchasing another another video card. RJLeong65
In this case, mixing may not work. If the 512MB sticks in the 1GB kit are double-ranked, this will cause the mixing of completely different IC chips and densities, which will likely result in significant problems down the road; at worst, your system may not even POST. And even if the mixture does work, you will not be able to run all four sticks at the full DDR2-800/PC2-6400 speed due to the limitations of all current DDR2-800 memory controllers. On the other hand, if the 512MB sticks in the 1GB kit are single-ranked, they may or may not match the IC chips in the 2GB kit's 1GB sticks exactly - and even if the IC chips exactly match, your system's overall performance will slow down slightly as a result of intermixing single- and double-ranked sticks of memory. Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted April 18, 2007 Corsair Employees Share Posted April 18, 2007 You can try it and see but most likely you would need to run them at DDR667 or at more relaxed timings.
