dirk29
Dear RAM guy. I have a Compaq Presario SR1820NX with *2.2GHz AMD Athlon 64 3400+ *512 MB (2 x 256MB) PC3200 DDR SDRAM, CAS=3.0 *Nvidia GeForce 6150 LE Chipset (The graphics card uses some of the memory. I have a PCI Express Slot which could be used for another graphics card, but I want to try adding memory first.) *160 GB Hard Drive I am getting lag playing Dawn of War (RTS) online in multiplayer mode over the Internet and in LAN games. I would like to play Company of Heroes (RTS), which won't even run now, because the game says I need 512MB minimum. By shutting everything down possible, my machine still uses 200 MB memory. So, I want to upgrade this computer. I think I can get the boost I need by simply adding 1 GIG. 2 GIG would be better, but I would rather save money for a new machine in a couple of years. The Corsair Configurator recommends: VS1GBKIT400 1GB Kit (2 x 512MB) or VS1GBKIT400C3 1GB Kit (2 x 512MB) . These kits go for roughly the same price. The straight 400 has a CAS of 2.5. The 400C3 has a stated CAS of 3.0. Which kit would more likely be compatible with my computer and with the existing memory so that I could go to 1.5 GIG? Would I be better off simply adding one VS1GB400C3 1GB? I have read other material on the internet which says that the memory for this machine should ideally be added in pairs. Thanks.
