Faulty but tests good?

Hey everyone,

I just ordered a CMX1024-3200 XMS3200v4.2 and it seems faulty, but it passes memtest86 with no fails. I ordered this stick because my other 1GB stick (Micron) has the same timings (3-3-3-8). Whether I use them together or just the Corsair by itself, Windows loads, but random things crash all over. I can't even think about loading a game. With my other stick, it's all smooth sailing. I ran memtest86 and it found no problems. My motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-K8N-SLI with a A64 3700+ San Diego. I have reproduced the same thing in a DFI KT600-AL with a Athlon XP 2600. It seems to run fine, but random things crash. Suggestions?

Thanks,

-Mike

First thing, Mike I am sorry but with AMD 64 you should not mix memory and especially not in a Dual channel MB. I would try just our module installed and load setup defaults and then set the tested settings and Voltage 2.75 Volts at Cas 3-3-3-8 and test the module with http://www.memtest.org to make sure its stable

My board doesn't give me exact voltages for the RAM. It does give me options for +0.1v and +0.2v. Neither of which solved my problem. Would Memtest86+ give different results than Memtest86? I did all the tests running only the Corsair stick by itself. I would be quick to call it the RAM, but I've never had a memory problem that Memtest didn't find. This is my first A64 system, though. Perhaps the memory controller being on the CPU introduces other variables? Maybe it's only unstable in Windows due to some higher load that the CPU has? I can only speculate on that, but I do know this, it runs unstable with this stick by itself in two different platforms. Random programs will crash, things that I normally don't even think about, like acrobat speed loader and other background things. Internet Explorer windows disappear on their own, at random. These two computers run flawlessly with other sticks. RMA?

I looked at your compatibility guide only after ordering (oops) and didn't see my stick listed, only the 3200"PT". The only difference between the two is the color of the heat spreaders, correct?
