Memory Compatibly Question

Recommended Posts

Hello to all, and thanks in advance for any advice.

My question is I am wanting to upgrade my RAM on my Evga 680i mobo to 3 GB. Right now I am running to 512 MB sticks of Corsair XMS2-Twin2X1024-6400C4. And I was wondering if I could add two 1 GB sticks of Corsair XMS2-TWIN2X2048-6400C4 to what I already have installed to bring me up to 3 GB? This memory has exactly the same specs as what I am running now, 2.1v 4-4-4-12 2T, so it should be compatible right?

Thanks again for any advice.

Your memory may be able to nly run at 667 mhz. Your best bet is to sell the 2x512 meg set and just use a 2x1gig set.

A good analogy a friend told me is to run down the street with a 50 pound weight in your left hand and a 100 pound weight in your right. That is what you are asking your memory controller to do.
