austinx2
I had issues with the memory I bought back in November that involved game crashes and errors while booting etc, so I spoke with Corsair and got a replacement that finally came in today. I put in the memory and at first it wouldnt boot so I reseated it and tried again. It worked and booted up fine and displayed the desired timing and quantity of ram through cpu-z. All was great until I loaded up my games. I am still getting memory address errors that crash my games. The main game is World of Warcraft, which I am aware that it could have problems of its own, especially with the new patch, but I am sure it is not the game. While waiting on Corsair to process my RMA, I purchased memory from my work(CompUSA) that was similar ddr800 memory in the form of 2x512 since thats the largest they had on hand. It worked perfectly with no errors or boot problems for as long as I owned it, which was 21 days. I ran every game I have in an effort to reproduce that dreaded memory error I had previously been receiving with the Corsair memory, but it never failed me through all my test. I am wondering if the memory I purchased just Isn't compatible with my motherboard. I am planning on running memtest on it tonight and will post the results ASAP. I have already gone through many preliminary steps before I ever sent in the first memory that failed on me because I have never had memory to go bad, especially Corsair memory. The RMA# I had before is R216365. Any insight on what I should do is appreciated.
austinx2
Well I just ran the test for as long as I could before the system restarted itself. The test was ran with 3 tests running simultaneously that started at 3:50am and ended at 4:01am. It restarted before I could write down the exact amount of errors but there was about 40-45 errors on each test. After it booted back up, I ran another test for 4 minutes and received 23 errors. I have never used memtest before so Im not sure how many errors is typical, but the errors were poping up as if I had visited a Pop-up attack website with too many windows you cant close type thing. Legend
Make sure you have the correct timings and voltage 4-4-4-12@800MHZ 2T 2.1v. You should disable Legacy USB Support prior to running Memtest86. If errors still occur test the sticks one at a time, to see if you can narrow down to a specific one. Yoxxy
I believe voltage may be the problem. With these sticks you need to set a voltage of 2.1v. This is not automatic from the SPD. If you need help to set a voltage please let me know. Thank you.
austinx2
Ill try checking the sticks individually tonight when i get home. As far as setting the voltage manually, I havent been able to find that setting in the bios. Theres a ton of memory things I can change, but nothing allows me to put in a manual value with a decimal that I have seen. I find it hard to believe that there wouldnt be a setting to change it, so if you guys know what its labeled I would like to know. Ill check the manual again in the mean time incase I skimmed over it. Thanks for the assistance
Yoxxy
What motherboard model do you have?
austinx2
its a Asus Crosshair 590 SLI. I updated it bios last night as well to see if that helped any, but nothing changed. I have most of my system specs listed under my name if you require additional information.
Yoxxy
I will look at the manual when I am home tonight and tell you where to change the voltage settings for your dimms.
austinx2
Well I looked through the manual and found where I could adjust the voltage. Since the change it is working almost perfect. I have ran memtest86+ on it for hours straight, usually at night, with 0 errors. However, I still get a random system restart every day or so. The error that I get during game play shows up similiar to the ones I was getting before the voltage change. It errors the game due to a memory crash then quickly restarts the computer. I have no way of recreating this error though. I have ran the program "memtest", which use to give me so many errors before the voltage change, and i get about 1-5 errors during a 30 minute period and sometimes longer. After the system restarts, it brings up a error saying "Windows has recoverd from a serious error". I am wondering what I should do to get the system to be more stable. Any suggestions are appreciated.
Legend
Test what your temps are under 100% CPU Load. Sisandra has this burn in test.
austinx2
Just curious, what happens if I enable the SLI-Ready memory feature in system bios if I only have one video card installed? Would this be something that could hinder or boost performance without a SLI setup. Thanks in advance
Yoxxy
No, nothing will hinder performance. This is just enabling EPP on the memory it has nothing to do with the video card(s).
