Memory went bad

Hello I built my computer about a year and a half ago minus the powersupply which was upgraded afterwards. About 3 months ago my system started blue screening really bad, maybe 3-5 times a day and although I don't remember the exact wording it said something about the memory in the explanation occasionally, sometimes giving a different message. Now my PC won't boot up at all and I was told by a good friend who helped me build my PC it was more than likely the ram. I had been running the same BIOs for months so I don't believe that could be the problem. I bought the ValueSelect 1gb 2x512mb sticks from Newegg as seen here:

Module part number: VS512MB400

Thanks for any help in advance.

Please load setup defaults and then set the Dim Voltage to 2.75 volts (+.2 Volts W/Giga-Byte) and then test the module/modules one at a time with http://www.memtest.org! If you still get errors, please follow the link in my signature “I think I have a bad part!” and we will be happy to replace them or it! However, if you get errors with both modules that would suggest some other problem and I would test them in another system or MB to be sure.
