CMX512-3700 Second Time Around...

i had the same problem sometime back, and the modules were rma'd. i was told corsair had dropped that model, and was told i would recieve comparable memory, however when they arrived they were the same model. the replacement sticks still don't really work in any of my motherboards. for example, a MSI K8N Platinum (timings 3-4-4-8, 2T - wouldn't even to boot screen when DRAM was set to "auto"), but they do work (sort of) in my DFI LanParty UT4, however they cause random reboots. this is alleviated somewhat if i set memory to 166mhz, however they will still cause random reboots; just not as often.

prior to rma, the modules often didn't even post in several motherboards (tho they did pass memtest, as do the repl. modules); the replacement modules do post, but cause random reboots (DFI NF4) or BSOD (MSI NF3) in XP.

i have corsair memory in 3 of my pc's, and they work fine, but these have given me problems since day1.. are there any settings which will allow these modules to run? are there any motherboards that are compatible with these modules?

i would certainly like to get some use out of them... :[pouts:

some time back i received a new pair of CMX512-3700 for an RMA. I am still unable to use them, and am still uncertain of their compatibility.

are they incompatible with most boards for some reason? are they poorly designed, use poor components, or am i simply unlucky and received a second set of defective modules?

first, they pass memtest on 3 pc's i have (all athlon boards) which use that style memory. bios timings used are 3-4-4-8, 2T as recommended. DRAM voltage is set to 2.7 as recommended. they pass memtest at both 200mhz and 233mhz (which results in an o/c cpu). unfortunately, the modules (single or dual) do not work in any of the three pc's under windows. the mainboards in the pc's are:

DFI lanparty ut nf4 ultra

DFI lanparty ut nf3 ultra

MSI K8N Platinum (nf3)

problems vary from bluescreen during windows boot, video failure, and random reboots - even @ 200mhz (no cpu overclock).

all 3 pc's run a min of 1:1 233 mhz, prime95 stable, using any of the following memory modules (2x 512 matched sticks, of course):

corsair pro series (cas2)

kingston hyperx (cas3)

geil (cas2.5)

the only conclusion is the cmx512-3700 modules are at fault, however at question is the reason why; are the modules simply incompatible with any of these boards? are they defective?

i am frustrated and at a loss over how to resolve this issue. please advise.

best regards...

Please load setup defaults and then set the memory voltage to 2.7 Volts and set the timings to Cass 3-3-3-8 and test them again. But do not over clock and see what happens.

at those settings (not overclocked) i still get intermittent, but consistent bluescreen in Vista:

Problem caused by computer hardware

This problem was caused by an unrecoverable hardware error that caused the operating system to stop functioning.

Troubleshooting

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If you have received this error more than once, it could indicate a serious problem with your computer. We recommend that you do the following:

Back up your files to avoid data loss in case of a complete hardware failure.

Contact the original manufacturer of your computer to determine the specific component which is failing.

Additional technical information

Although we know the problem is caused by a hardware component, the error report does not contain enough information to tell us the specific component. It is likely that the problem is being caused by one of the following computer components:

Random Access Memory (RAM)

System board (DFI LanParty UT NF4 Ultra)

Central Processing Unit (X2 s939 3800+ CPU)

Power supply (Corsair HX620W)

swapping w/ a pair of corsair cmx5123200c2pro eliminates the issue.

What Bios version are you using and please tell me the exact Bios settings you had set for both CPU and memory, and what slots do you have the modules in. And did you test the modules one at a time with http://www.memtest.org and reset the Bios when you changed the modules?

yes, i reset bios to settings suggested above. the issue happens in either slot. the bios version is NFCK804 67A61FD49C-00

memtest reports no errors, however removing the ram and replacing completely resolves the issue, so memtest is not conclusive imo.

the ram passes memtest in 2 other pcs as well, but bluescreens (sometimes during boot) on both (win xp, msi neo2 plat, a64 3200+; winxp, dfi lanparty ut nf3 250gb, a64 3200+ ). one pc had an uptime of over 60 days running w/ kingston hyperX memory; the other several weeks w/ geil pc3200 memory.

That tells me the memory is not failing or whats generating the errors, can you test the modules in another system? And what you changed them I am asking if you reset the BIOS and then load setup defaults then set the settings for the modules, just changing the setting might not work with this MB.

But we will be happy to replace them if needed, and what are the settings you had set after you loaded setup defaults?

I'm sorry, but it seems i am repeating myself quite a bit here....

bios was cleared via jumper, default was set, ram settings were changed to 3-4-4-8, 2T as recommended (thank goodness i can save multiple bios configs with this bios, heh). DRAM voltage was set to 2.7 as recommended. they pass memtest at both 200mhz and oc'd (233mhz). unfortunately, the modules (single or dual configuration) do not work or is not stable in any of the three pc's under windows (and now under vista as well), 3even at default cpu clocks.

i can't explain why these pass memtest, but while they do, they will not run in any of my systems w/o boot problem, lockups, and bluescreens, which only occur when these modules are run. if the memory is not failing, why do 3 systems run fine w/ ram from multiple manufacturers (incl. other models of corsair memory), but they all fail running these?

the modules have been run in 3 different systems, all with similar results (the ram was originally purchased at quite an expense way back when for an intel 3.2 ghz EE, but was not stable in that set up either).

it just seems these are ridiculously .."picky" for lack of a better word, and will only run stable under very specific configurations (none of which i seem to have). by contrast, my corsair xms 3200c2pro runs perfectly in any of my systems.

i've lost confidence in this particular product; so much so that at this point i'd even be happy if they were replaced with inexpensive value ram (tho i would prefer something comparable - these were pretty "high end" at the time, but hey, i'm frustrated beyond desperation here) - just something that would at least give me some use and value for what i spent on these (which was alot at the time).

i'm not upset with corsair; i have many corsair products (both ram & psu) and have always been quite happy with the products, save this particular model of memory.... which is why i have been questioning compatibility (and others on this forum have as well) since way back when...

thanks very much for your time on this.

edit: a bit off topic, but i've been looking for another set of 3200c2pro, and they are difficult to find. i did find a single stick of 3200LLPro. would these be compatible to run w/ my 3200c2pro?
