AM2 Sempron and DDR2 6400 compatibility

Hi..

As far as know... single core AM2 cpus support DDR2 up to 5400/667Mhz.

But what does this exactly mean?

Does this mean that if I set up a system with an AM2 sempron + 6400 memory sticks the system won't boot up at all?

Or does this mean that I will be able to downclock the ram to 667 divider and eventually reach 800Mhz by overclock?

It depends on the DRAM and the Motherboard. If the Dram needs more voltage than the motherboard can supply, then there will be issues. If the SPD rated timings of the DRAM are not compatible with the motherboard then there will be issues. If the DRAM needs more of a startup voltage and the board does not allow for setting this, then there will be issues.

You need to research the board and the DRAM to find out if they will be compatible with each other.
