Asus P5B Deluxe & Corsair 2GB DDR2 XMS2 Dominator PC2-8500C5 Bought wrong RAM?

I've ordered components to build a new system containing:

Asus P5B Deluxe

Intel Core 2 DUO E6600 2.4GHz

Scythe Ninja Plus Rev.B Heatpipe CPU Cooler

Corsair 2GB DDR2 XMS2 Dominator PC2-8500C5 TwinX (2x1GB)

I meant to order 2x PC2-6400C4 1GB's but in a moment of madness ordered the 8500C5's instead.

I've now read that even though I'm planning to overclock, I'll never be able to get the RAM to reach the speeds its capable of, and may even run slower than the 6400C4 RAM I was going to buy.

My question is, will this RAM work? and should I try to return it or swap it for the 6400C4 RAM?

Any help much appreciated.

With the 8500C5, you should have no problems setting CAS 4 timings at the same speeds of the pc2-6400.

Also with the 8500 you can use a higher divider to increase the amount of bandwidth that is available to you. P5B has a 4:5 2:3 or even 1:2 divider.

We have much the same system. Your DRAM will allow you some very tight timings and which the 6400C4's would not be able to compete with.

When you get this system together, post in the Enthusiast section and there will be help there for you to optimize that fine DRAM. :)
