damonpla.com
Greetings, first time posting here. I am impressed with the replies to peoples' questions in this forum, so I decided to post one I have been pondering/researching the past few days. Just put together a system, I'm an average builder...this is my 2nd system. The ram I am using in my machine now is from my previous setup. (1GB Ultra PC2700 @166) I would like to purchase 2 GB for this new system, dual channel for it's obvious reasons. Eventually up to 4GB. After reading so many posts and googling this and that, I am nothing but confused on which ram I should buy for this A8N5X mobo. "Decisions, decisions." Within the manual of this mobo, it gives you a vendor's list, but I suspect it should be updated. The website shows the same list (not updated). My budget is about $200-$250. On with the question! Which RAM set should I buy? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820145579 http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1418374&CatId=1354 Both value selects, but one specifies DUAL CHANNEL, the other doesn't but in reviews people using in dual channel mode. ??? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820145486 Before I write another paragraph, I will see what you guys have to say. Thanks in advance! damon A8N5X nForce4 AMD 64 4000+ 2.4ghz 3D Fuzion GeForce 7300GS Ultra 'V' Series 400W PSU (have ordered the 500W) Maxtor ATA Pri: 40gb Sec: 60gb

damonpla.com
Thanks for your reply, I must have overlooked this compatibility form. When I did a search on the Corsair website I looked for my motherboard and it wasn't there. Thanks again! Cheers! damonpla.com

damonpla.com
Im thinking of getting (2) VS1GB400C3... the only thing I am skeptical about is I read all this talk about getting samsung chips or nanya chips. With that....should I purchase (1) VS2GB400C3? Better my chances of getting matched chipsets with a 2GB kit than buying two 1GB kits? If a stick is bad, I hear you have to send them both back (2 GB kit) which is why I figured to buy them separately. Any thoughts? Thanks again! Damon Hurry, I'm about to hit the submit button @ Newegg! :D haha
DerekT
It's always a bit of a dice throw when you buy separate sticks. You can only guarantee them if you look at them and you can't do that with web purchases. The only way to ensure identical DRAM is by purchasing a kit or seeing the sticks. 1GB sticks are not a kit.
