Tim Greenwood
I have a dell xps gen 4 and the corsair mem configurator comes back saying my MB is 800/1066MHz FSB, Intel 925XE Express Chipset when i enter in XPS Gen 4. Also looking through the list of corsair part numbers doesnt seem to include the one I i wrote in the thread title. (Also only 3 part numbers show up in the list of compatable modules which scares me). I had already installed the memory in the computer in question and when powered on it beeps constantly until i turn it off.
Tim Greenwood
Correction, the ram packaging had that long number starting with Z on it along with a barcode, the ram sticks themselves have both the numbers: CM2X1024-6400 and XMS6405v5.1 on them. Also I replced my 2 old 512 sticks with this new ram. would i even be able to jut add this ram on top of the original 512's?
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted January 9, 2007 Corsair Employees Share Posted January 9, 2007 I am sorry but I would not suggest using our XM2S memory with any OEM system, please see if the reseller will let you send them back and get the correct memory for your system. DerekT
For your information Tim, OEM companies often have the BIOS's created and/or modified for the OEM system. Often the hold for too closely to the Intel and JEDEC (as well as other bottom line) standards. When you install hardware components that are high end, they often require more voltages than the standards allow for which creates issues because the modified/built for OEM BIOS's seldom allow for any manual modifications. The Value Select DRAM although not as high end and thus not nearly as fast conforms to these standards and often are the best (and sometimes only) choice for many OEM systems. Tim Greenwood
Well that sucks, and changing the BIOS or flashing it would not be able to fix that? Also why the enormous difference in price (Especially seeing how it scales backwards) The 2 Gigs of high end ram I bought for about $254 or so. while the low end ram that is compatable with my system (as recomended by the "Configurator" sells for $150-175 for a single Gig
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted January 9, 2007 Corsair Employees Share Posted January 9, 2007 Our XM2S modules have a minimum suggested Voltage of 1.9 Volts and most OEM systems will not support setting the memory voltage.
