Rove
My HX520 emits a constant high pitched crackling sound. Like someone's throwing sticks in a bonfire. It's quite odd because when installing windows it came and went, but it's on 100% now. It's honestly too ridiculously loud for a quiet PSU. My system was just about inaudible from 50cm away when the HX520 wasn't shrieking. Should I RMA this unit? Is there a risk to my hardware if I continue to use this power supply? Thanks. Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted January 10, 2007 Corsair Employees Share Posted January 10, 2007 Can you check the fan and see if the lable is or has come loose?
Rove
I stopped the fan with a pencil and it has no effect on the noise, I'm sure it's some of the coils just buzzing like mad. The label/sticker is attached properly to the fan. I've set everything up outside my case to localize the sound with certainty, and it's absolutely the PSU coils making this noise.
