2 * CM2X1024-6400C4PRO memtest errors together but not indevidually

I bought a whole new system at the start of august in parts. the motherboard is an ASUS P5N32SLI-SE Deluxe using a Core 2 Duo E6600 processor and SilverStone 600W PFC PSU, and the sales receipt says the memory is TWIN2X20486400PRO but the actual modules say CM2X1024-6400C4PRO on each of them.

Windows keeps throwing STOP errors, Fedora Core 6 keeps hanging and the memory only shows the top 3 green LEDs lit up, so I did a few Memtest86s from my Fedora DVD

With both chips plugged in Memtest86 on 8 passes showed 13 errors all around 1030MB all on test 7 (random number sequence) on several separate passes.

This image is a picture taken of the result: http://www.forsaken-mu.net/george/uploaded/memory%20errors.jpg

With either chip plugged in on its own, after 8 passes each, no errors were found at all.

I will leave the memory tests on overnight to make sure.

I'm not overclocking and I have the ram modules plugged in to the slots of matching colour (DIMM_A1 and DIMM_B1 not DIMM_A2 or DIMM_B2). I don't know if thats right but memtest appears as dual channel when they are in that configuration.

Could this be a problem with either/both of the memory modules or maybe with the motherboard? (I have had problems with SLI since I got that motherboard too so I don't know if its faulty but unfortunately there are no real tests for that AFAIK and an RMA just to see if a new one fixes it is a bit much)

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Please try and set the memory frequency at 667 Mhz and see if the system is more stable, if so you can try over clocking your CPU to get the memory at their tested settings And I would check for the latest bios and then load setup defaults and set the memory voltage to 2.1 Volts.

Ok, I'll try that. Running the test overnight for 10 hours with both chips in, same slots but the chips are backwards came up with 20 errors through 20 passes all on test 7. Most of the errors were still at ~1030MB but some were at ~1540, since this is almost exactly the start middle of the 2nd 2048, could pin be broken or a faulty connection on a pin of the motherboard slot? I don't know why else it would show errors in these particular places.

Only in dual channel and lowering the clock to 667 (or possibly changing voltage from auto to 2.10v as I did that at the same time) seems to have improved stability (10 passes of memtest86+ with no errors then I had to turn the machine off), but I don't know how to "over clock my CPU to get the memory at their tested settings" and I don't know if the ram should be left at that speed, as I had to put the settings in manual mode (as opposed to auto or linked) and left the FSB at 1066.

Of course really I would prefer to be able to run my ram stably at the speed it is advertised at.

I am sorry I cant tell you how to over clock but with this MB you would have to over clock to run the memory at 800 Mhz! You can follow the link in my signature for some hints on over clocking your system if you like. What are the correct timings for My Module?
