aamert
Hey guys I am trying to find a 2GB ram module for the above upgrade i am planning to do. Is there a decent 2gb ram out there right now with low latency? I know in another post RAMGUY suggest getting DDR2 667 instead of DDR2 800. I would like to get the best speed /low latency and max capacity (2gb) , to cover myself for future upgrades and to max out the capacity in the memory modules on the mother board. So far people have recommended just getting a pair of 1gb modules.. This is my last stop.. so throw any suggestions. Thanks,
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted January 2, 2007 Corsair Employees Share Posted January 2, 2007 Twin2x2048-6400C4 would be the best choice as far as price and performance goes, but if you can afford it Twin2x2048-8888C4 would be able to run at 800 Mhz at Cas 3 in most system's
aamert
RamGuy Is Twin2x2048-8888C4 latency of 3 or 4? cuz looking around , it shows 4.
DerekT
The Twin2x2048-8888C4 has a Cas Latency of 4. What RamGuy is saying is that this RAM can normally easily take a manual setting of 3. My 8500C5's (1066) Have a Cas Latency of 5 yet I run the CL at 3 with a 800MHz FSB.

My Main purpose would be to use normal day to day apps, with multi tasking, extracting/compression, audio/photo editing and MAY be some games. So should i just stick with the least expensive 6400c4? DerekT
So should i just stick with the least expensive 6400c4? It really depends on your ability to generate income, and desire to spend that income. I would say that the difference between any 6400C4's is minimal and the lowest priced 6400C4's will suit your needs just fine. Anything else is left to the realm of the overclocker and tweaker who demands the utmost of performance.
MrDisco
I too have the P5W DH and need a 2GB memory kit. For Corsair, I've settled on the XMS2 Dominator 6400C4 kit. Can the experts here clarify a few things for me? 1. Will this memory kit boot the system on the first go? I ask this because I do not have any DDR2 memory on hand to 'kickstart' the system (in order to modify the bios for the proper voltage etc). I look at these threads and I don't see a resolution to what appears to be the same concern that I have: http://www.houseofhelp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=56056 http://www.houseofhelp.com/forums/showthread.php?p=274948#post274948 2. If the above is ok, is there a webpage that will tell me what values I need to modify in the BIOS to get the advertised ratings (i.e. 4-4-4-12) 3. Finally, how does the Corsair XMS modules differentiate themselves from the 'rest of the pack'. I see competitors have modules of similar timings, so what makes Corsair the ones to buy? Thank you. I have a system that is just waiting to be built that is dependant on me buying the right memory modules.
rrklock
Me Too. I have two Asus P5W DH motherboard computers under construction and awaiting selection of the proper memory. What is the maximum memory that can be initially installed and be recognized/detected upon the first system boot up and post? Assuming an end goal of having 8gb dual channel memory. Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted January 25, 2007 Corsair Employees Share Posted January 25, 2007 I would suggest VS2GBKit667D2 with this MB unless you plan on over clocking. With this MB if you want to over clock I would suggest Twin2x2048-6400C4. And 2.0 Gig modules are not available as of yet but I would not use more than 2 modules for best performance no matter if its 1.0 or 2.0 Gig modules.
