kendogg102
Everything in the system was bought brand new from Newegg, except 1 stick of the ram which i got from best buy a while back. The processor was OEM and not retail im guessing, because it didnt come in a retail box. It came in a little plastic box on top of some hard foam. The only thing i have done to the system is put it together. It hasnt been stable from day 1 so i havent even had a chance to OC it if i wanted. kendogg102
Fatal errors on Prime when you have tested the DRAM to be good are almost always due to CPU instability. I have seen this occur many times with CPU's that have been highly overclocked and overvolted. They are unstable and lose the overclock, finally losing the ability to run stable even at stock and doubly so on AMD CPU's. The on CPU memory controller loses its ability to function correctly. When i tested with prime95 before using the torture test with the option that looks at the cpu memory it didnt crash, but when i used the option to test the ram it gave me fatal errors. So was the first test not a good benchmark for the cpu stability???

If the DRAM tests out fine in another system, then you need to look at motherboard issues.
kendogg102
i guess ill play around with the dimm slots and see if putting the RAM in different slots effects anything. So far i have just been putting them in the recommended slots in the manual (for 2 x 1 gb, slot A1 and B1; for 1 x 1gb, slot B1). Maybe i should try just channel B or just channel A. Im running out of ideas and ive spent to much money on this build to just give up! :(:
DerekT
I have heard of people state that the second set of slots brought stability. I have never had to try this but it surely can't hurt.
kendogg102
i just noticed something odd. I was switching around the memory and trying other memory from my other computer and i noticed that in memtest on my other computer, under the chipset heading and the settings heading at the top of the program there is the specs in there. When i run memtest on my new computer it does not display anything next to the chipset heading and the settings heading. Hope this means something useful to someone. What do you think? DerekT
Some BIOS's do not show this. Gigabyte S3/DS3 and DQ6 do not show it either.
kendogg102
i also forgot to mention that the memtest identified the size of memory as 2047 for 2 sticks and 1023 for 1 stick. Is suppose to be 2048 and 1024???
DerekT
1MB is protected and can not be used. IT is the MB that the program runs in and uses to store addresses. Memtest does a CRC self-diagnostic for that area and then runs itself.
kendogg102
alright here is my latest. 8 passes memtest with two 512 mb off brand modules from my other computer. No errors. They are in the A1 and B1 slots. How are these passing and the other ones not? I tried your memory timings from an earlier post in this thread on the 2 x 1gb sticks for about a half hour on memtest with no probs. Getting tired ill run it longer tommorow Here is what the settings were before i changed them: Cas latency (tcl): 3.0 RAS/CAS Delay: 3 Min Active RAS: 8 Row Precharge: 3 RAS/RAS DELAY: 2 ROW cycle: 9 Row refresh cycle: 14 R/W Delay: 2 Read Preamble = 5.5ns Asynch Latency: 7ns Here is what i changed it to: Cas latency (tcl): 3.0 RAS/CAS Delay: 4 Min Active RAS: 8 Row Precharge: 4 RAS/RAS DELAY: 2 ROW cycle: 12 Row refresh cycle: 12 R/W Delay: 4 Read Preamble = 7.0ns Asynch Latency: 7ns
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted January 5, 2007 Corsair Employees Share Posted January 5, 2007 With Value Select all you should need to do is load setup defaults with just 2 modules installed in the correct slots and then set the memory Voltage to 2.75 Volts and test them one ste at a time with http://www.memtest.org but with this MB you have to Disable Legacy USB when running any memory Test. kendogg102
ok came home turned on the computer and windows crashed three times with no BSOD. This is with stock memory settings. 4th time i got a BSOD and this is the error: IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL Technical information: STOP: 0x0000000A (0x00000004, 0x00000002, 0x00000000, 0x80520EB7) Looked it up and was a memory problem but i dont know if its with the CPU or the RAM. I switched out the RAM for my 2 x 512 mb off brand modules and so far have not crashed. Im starting to think its the corsair memory cause ive run 8 passes of memtest on the 512mb sticks and nothing. Hope im making sense.
kendogg102
tried the corasir 1gb sticks again together and got a new BSOD PFN_LIST_CORRUPT Looked it up and this is what i got: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/q291806/ Going to do some more memtests but so far they are not helping me decide the problem. I have run memtest individually on each stick. Stick A got through 8 passes with no problems. Stick B got an error early on. So i put both of them back in the computer using slot a1 and b1. Run memtest for about 7 passes with no errors, except i have run both of these before and got errors early on. Then i put the Stick B back in and ran it for 8 passes and no errors. Im gonna run Stick B again and see if i can get an error out of it. Whats my next step???

kendogg102
RMA'd the 1 bad stick of memory and just waiting for the new one to get sent back to me. Ill let you know what happens when i get the new one back!
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted January 9, 2007 Corsair Employees Share Posted January 9, 2007 We can try replacing the modules if you like, but I would suggest moving them to Slots A2 and B2 and Load setup defaults and then set the memory Voltage to 2.7 Volts and make sure the command Rate is set to 2T. Also please disable Legacy USB when running any memory test with this MB.
kendogg102
The memory was the problem. I am not having random crashes or instability and no data corruption on things that were being corrupted before. This all started with trying to install BF2142 and getting MD5 errors, but this does not happen anymore. So for the moment im running just my old 1gb stick untill the new one gets back to me. I guess all thats left now is to start overclocking!!!
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted January 10, 2007 Corsair Employees Share Posted January 10, 2007 Let's get them replaced, please use the On Line RMA Request Form and we will be happy to replace them or it.
kendogg102
already RMA'ed them to Newegg. Thanx for your help!!!
kendogg102
UPDATE: Got my RMA back from newegg and the new RAM is working just fine with no instability problems. I cant believe that stick of ram caused me all those problems. Oh well its fixed and fast now. Think its time to start overclocking!
