Val92
I haven't bought the board yet, but it's at the very top of my list. At NewEgg.com, on the Specs page for the MB, I see the following: Notice: Only DDR2-800 memory supporting JEDEC approved 1.8V operation with timings of 5-5-5 or 6-6-6 is supported on Intel Desktop Boards based on Intel 965 Express Chipsets. This worries me. Now, I already bought the memory, since Fry's was nice enough to put it on sale for a good price, and then threw in a nice rebate, as well. According to the memory compatibility search tool, the memory I bought *is* compatible with the board. Is it? Really? Absolutely, positively for sure? What settings should I be using? What kind of performance can I expect? Thanks in advance for any help you can provide
DerekT
This is just Intel's disclaimer. They insert this so that you can not be held accountable for any instabilities following from (greater than JEDEC standard) DRAM. Just as PC6400C4's are spec'd at 800Mhz (4 - 4 - 4 - 12) with 1.9v, they are warranted up to, but not over, 2.1 volts. In other words, Corsair can not be held to RMA after using 2.1v on this dram. Intel chipsets are warranted to work at the JEDEC standards and you can not RMA a board because it will not work with high end dram that does not work at the JDEC level. There are some high end DRAM's that will not boot at 1.9v and if you were to buy that dram with an Intel 965 chipset, you could not hold Intel accountable for their chipset not booting with that DRAM. Your 5400C4's will not have this problem at any rate. They conform to JEDEC standards. You will have to enter the BIOS and set the DRAM to the enhanced timings though. (The last machine I built used PC-133 RAM, and I did no overclocking or setting of anything - just popped it in and fired it up - consider me as very much a newbie with this (to me) high-end stuff.)
