shrek3166
Hi, We are currently setting up system with an asus p5n32-e sli and corsair dominator 8500 (2x1024). We are in trouble making the epp profile working. Sometime it discovers 400 Mhz Memory some other time 533 Mhz ... Even when we manually fix the whole timings the best we achieve is 400 Mhz. We tried with two different kits and two different mobo, same things. Mister RamGuy we need help :!: regards Shrek
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted December 30, 2006 Corsair Employees Share Posted December 30, 2006 I am sorry but this function did not work properly when we tested this MB, not to mention this MB might not be able to run these modules at their tested settings. It will probably top out at about 950-1070 Mhz on the memory buss! Depending on how much you over clock the CPU!
shrek3166
Thanks for your quick reply. We will have to change the mobo then. Do you think the Evga 680i will works at full speed ? regards, Shrek
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted January 3, 2007 Corsair Employees Share Posted January 3, 2007 Yes and I take that back this MB will run 1066 memory just get the latest bios and then set the SLI ready memory to CMU MAX should be all you need to do! mangar
I have BIOS 0602 installed and my memory refuses to run at 1066. It appears to run fine at 800 MHz. The few times I've been able to get it to boot far enough for me to see the memory speed when I have it set to 1066, the system hangs. Most of the time it brings up the processor name during the boot process and freezes. The problem is with the memory or the motherboard. I spent 45 minutes on the phone with a tech from the company who built my machine and he couldn't get it working either. Even when I manually set the RAM to 5-5-5-15 T2 at 2.2V, the memory is still only detected at 800 MHz. Using the SLI memory options at all seem to = instant boot problems. I'm using the 8500C5 2x1024 RAM which is supposed to be stable with this system and avoid all of the problems the 6400 series experienced. Help me RAM GUY! Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted January 16, 2007 Corsair Employees Share Posted January 16, 2007 There’s a fix though. 8500C5fix.zip Follow the INSTRUCTIONS.txt file and you should be good to go. If this doesn't fix the problem, we'll RMA the modules for you no problem at all.8500c5fix.zip
mangar
Followed the directions and still no go. I'm currently running memtest86+ on the RAM and I'm also investigating if there is a problem with the MB itself (ASUS support seems to be pretty bad, they've responded twice now with similiar instructions to check the memory timings and to try them manually - which my original ticket with them already states was done). I also have a call in to my system builder (I think I'm going to get them to cross-ship me a new MB and RAM) so I can do further troubleshooting. I'll keep on posting updates in this thread. mangar
I received a response from ASUS today that the MB needs to be replaced. Since they haven't conducted any troubleshooting with me directly, I'm hoping that this is an issue that they've run into before and have been keeping it quiet. Still no callback from my system builder, I just called and complained to them since I've been waiting for a callback since Monday (they were closed for the MLK holiday) and 2 additional calls were not returned by their tech support manager. I'm going to ask them to ship me a new MB and RAM (just in case!) and I'll keep updating this as progress is made.

mangar
Spoke to my machine builder late last night. They put a new set of RAM on a test board and ran it all night at 1066 (they called me with an update this morning) and they are overnighting it to me, I should have it on Monday and will test it that night. On a side note, I upgraded to the latest BIOS (released this week) 0702 and the problem still exists.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted January 20, 2007 Corsair Employees Share Posted January 20, 2007 NP Please let me know when you get them!
mangar
I received the new RAM and it's behaving exactly the same as the old RAM. I did notice that the RAM the machine came with was marked v1.1 and the new RAM was v1.3, but everything else was the same. At this point we are pointing the finger at the MB. Instead of me replacing the MB myself, the machine builder is building me a new machine and will make sure that the RAM on the new machine is running at 1066 before they ship it to me as a replacement. They are going to call me later today with a delivery estimate of the replacement system. The really strange thing about all of this is that my system appears to be stable with the RAM @ 800. I'll post an update when I receive the new system and confirm that all is well with both it and the RAM in it. :)

Dostoyevsky77
Hi. I just wanted to say I have the exact same problem with my P5N32-E SLI & the 8500C5D! Although, in my case I can only max out at 533 MHz. Please write back when you resolve this problem!
Yoxxy
533 mhz = DDR2-1066, nothing to worry about here.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted January 27, 2007 Corsair Employees Share Posted January 27, 2007 For that MB just get the latest bios and load setup defaults and then set SLI Ready memory to CPU should be all you need to do!
Dostoyevsky77
I did some research on this. It looks like nobody with a CPU OCed more than a certain amount on the 680i can reach optimal RAM speeds. On my QX6700, for example, any multiplier over 13 actually BLACKS OUT the FSB/Memory settings page for this mobo. The issue seems to be getting a good amount of attention, however. I googled "qx6700 multiplier voltage ddr2" to get a whole bunch of forums dealing with this. Let me know if I'm completely off the mark here, or if this makes sense. (I haven't tried rolling back my CPU OC yet, but I'll mess with that over the coming week to see if I can at least reach spec on the RAM). twindragon
U lost me on step 5 5. On the FULL SPD REWRITE screen, change the SPD HEX ADDRESS to the address of the first module, then click WRITE. 6. Repeat that step for the address of the second module. 7. Reboot the computer. Your modules should now have the correct SPD. chande adress to what? ahh nm change the first block one in under 00 got it works like a chatm ty
Top3s
I have this setup as well.I recieved these memory modules today.Prior to installing them I used my old ram to set my bios (0702) to program defaults.I installed the ram into the 2 blue ramslots #'s 1 & 3.Apon entering the bios I found that the SLI ready memory setting was grayed out and I was unable to set it to Max CPU OC as instructed earlier in this thread.I then tried moving the ram to slots 2 & 4 but I still had the same result.Any help would be greatly appreciated as it looks to me at this point that my modules do not contain the EPP profiles. Legend
I have seen other users have issues with EPP on this mobo but not the Striker. Still a fairly new mobo, hopefully a later revison of bios will solve this issue.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted January 30, 2007 Corsair Employees Share Posted January 30, 2007 With just our modules installed you need to clear the Bios and then go to Bios setup and load setup defaults and see if you have the option to set SLI ready memory. Top3s
I did try setting program defaults with the Corsair PC8500 in ,twice actually ,but the sli ready memory setting is still grayed out.
Legend
The bios dated 0602 and later should work with EPP with no issues. Clear Cmos and upon the first boot up, do not adjust any settings see if you can enable Sli Ready.
Yoxxy
It does not change voltage when you set SLI-Ready so it does not fully work currently. Read Asus forums for information.
