SilentBobVHT
Help please...I am building my first system from scratch and I purchased P5N32Sli SE Deluxe and TWIN2X2048-6400C4D. Initially I had bought other(wont let me use the name of the ram in the thread) RAM but found out it was not compatible with that mother board. I could get it to run with the "other" RAM but it was unstable and would crash when I played any games. I checked the Corsair web site and saw that the P5N32Sli SE Deluxe and TWIN2X2048-6400C4D were compatible according to Corsair. It did not show up on the QVL from ASUS. So I was able to return the unspeakable RAM and get the Corsair RAM and I put the sticks in last night and turned on the computer and...nothing.:sigh!: The lights on the keyboard do not light, the light on the wireless mouse receiver does not come on, it does not load anything. I remembered seeing that I may need to clear the CMOS so I looked in my manual and followed those steps. Unplug computer, remove battery, move the jumper over for 10 secs, move the jumper back, insert battery, plug in turn on and get into bios settings. I did this, but still nothing loads. I tried each stick of RAM in various slots and combinations but I am not getting anything. P5N32Sli SE Deluxe TWIN2X2048-6400C4D Intel E6400 Nvidia 7600 GT Nvidia 7600 GT Western Digital 250gb in a raid configuration Coolmax 650w Any suggestions please? Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted December 27, 2006 Corsair Employees Share Posted December 27, 2006 If you tried the system one module at a time and it will not post with either module I would see if a friend can help you test the modules in another system to be sure, but it would suggest some other problem if this is the case! SilentBobVHT
Well the system worked with the other ram, I took it out went to frys to exchange it for the new ram came home and put it in then I got nothing. If I had to guess, it would lead me to beleive that its a compatibility issue. For the ASUS P5N32SLI SE Deluxe, would you recommend this ram? Or would you recommend something in the 667 or 533 that would be more reliable? I have no issues with exchanging it for other ram. I dont intend to overclock, I want a solid stable system, if this would be better accomplished by getting a little slower ram then so be it. Or in your opinion, is this mobo worth all the hassle and could you recommend a better part there?
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted December 27, 2006 Corsair Employees Share Posted December 27, 2006 Please try the modules one at a time and I would clear the bios with the CLRTC jumper and see if it will post!
SilentBobVHT
First thing, I have seen different methods to clear the CMOS and I am confused as to the proper way to do it. Is what I have posted above the correct way to do this. And do I need to clear CMOS everytime I try a different stick? Second, does it matter which slot to use for the RAM? I have tested it in several slots and I get the same results...blank screen...no post or nothin. Third, would a hard drive need to be present to get into the BIOS? I am trying to remove as many components as I can to narrow it down. If I can remove the hard drive it would be one less connection to worry about until I know the situation with my new RAM and MOBO is settled. Lastly, from your second post I am confused as to whether you think the RAM may be faulty or if there is another issue.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted December 29, 2006 Corsair Employees Share Posted December 29, 2006 It would be close to impossible to get two bad modules from us and why I have suggested testing the system one module at a time.
SilentBobVHT
I think I am not making my self clear. I would test the sticks in another system if that were possible, I do not know anyone that I could do this with. I am not questioning whether or not the sticks are good or bad...I will assume they are good for now. My concern is of compatibility. I have seen other posts on this and the ASUS website that talk about trying to use 800 mhz RAM in this particular mobo and getting nothing, the concern was that this mobo was not able to support the 800 mhz RAM. Even with the updates to the BIOS, there were still many people who were not having any luck. I was asking if you thought I would have better luck with 667 or 533 mhz RAM. To the best of my knowledge, everything else in my system is working fine as it was all running with the RAM I had initially bought, which was 800mhz RAM, but it was unstable, and there was a period of about 4 hours from when I removed the old RAM and put in the new RAM. In an effort to comply with your request, I have cleared the CMOS and tried the sticks individually and in different slots. But I have not been successful in getting it to post. The next logical step I can see is exchanging the RAM for a slower speed RAM. If I am not successful then, I will pull the mobo and send that back to ASUS and get an exchange there. Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted December 30, 2006 Corsair Employees Share Posted December 30, 2006 This MB suggests DDR667 memory with a 1066 FSB CPU but I have tested it with 800 Mhz memory as long as you are using a 1066 CPU and you only have two modules installed. I would suggest Twinx2048-5400C4 for this MB and or platform for best performance and compatibility!
DerekT
The next logical step I can see is exchanging the RAM for a slower speed RAM. If I am not successful then, I will pull the mobo and send that back to ASUS and get an exchange there. I agree with both of these steps. After reading your testing procedures and subsequent situation I would attempt a lower speed (and voltage) dram. Or, an Intel Chipset motherboard to go with that Intel CPU. I am not at all impressed with the problems that are continually happening with Nvidia based Intel CPU chipsets. I would personally take back that motherboard and purchase either an ASUS P5P-Deluxe or a Gigabyte 865P-S3. I am in the industry, and have an eye on the return rates of the Nvidia based boards. The rate is abysmal. If you return this board and purchase one of the other boards, I believe you will also forestall future issues even if you find a "Fix" for this DRAM event. SilentBobVHT
Ok...back from the computer super store with the 5400C4. I put in the first stick, hit power and to my delight...its posting. So I went in and manually adjusted the timings to 4-4-4-12-2T adjust the voltage to 1.9 and make a few other adjustments and save and exit...now it hangs at the post screen. Hmmm...I clear the CMOS again hit power and it posts again. This time I leave the timings and everything to auto. restart and it loads. Hey look my desktop! During this process I had removed one video card and the sound card. So I shut down, install the second video card and sound card, install the second stick of RAM, sticks in A1 + A2 now, put the case back together and hit power... ... ...nothing! Ok, so I go back to square one, take out one stick, clear the CMOS and hit the power... ... ...nothing except a strange ticking noise. My DVD drive is trying to read something over and over again, so I open it, and it quickly shut, but there is nothing in there. So I try the stick in another slot and the same thing happens. Keyboard and mouse sensor are not lighting up, there is no posting. Try the other stick and I get the same results. Argh:sigh!: Does this mean anything significant? Any suggestions? SilentBobVHT
Completely confused! So I last left my system with 1 stick of ram in slot B1. This was yesterday after my last post. So today I am back at it trying to get it to work. I didn't do anything today except walk in, unplug the ribbon cable that plugs in the 2 DVD drives cause they were going crazy yesterday, push the power button and it posts. It gives me an error saying something about the check sum press F1 to load defaults or F2 to go into the BIOS. I figure I will see what the defaults do...click F1 and windows begins to boot. This is very odd. So I had to reactivate windows, my desktop loads up and everything is fine except there is no internet connection. So I restart the computer and watch it load again, ok this is good. After it starts up the second time I shut it down again. Now I want to either install the second stick of ram or plug in the ribbon cable again, I opt for putting in the second stick of ram. At this point I am baffled as to why it worked today but not yesterday so I put the second stick into slot A1. Hit power and... ... ...WTF! Move the stick of ram into slot B2 and... ... ... , take the second stick out of B2 and just have the original one that I have not touched yet and... ... ...   :sigh!: :[pouts: . The one thing I can see is the light on the wireless mouse sensor does come on, but the keyboard lights do not flash. So now I try switching the sticks of ram around and I even plug in the ribbon cable again, but I get nothing again. The DVD drive still acts up if the ribbon cable is plugged into it, but only the secondary drive not the primary. Any words of wisdom from anyone? Derek, you recommended two other mobos, I am looking for something that fully supports two graphics cards, I see a lot of boards that claim to have 2 x16 slots but one runs at x16 the other runs at x4 or something weird. The current mobo supports 2 x16 slots with both at x16. Do the 2 you recommend fully support 2 x16 slots?

If you are looking for SLi then you need to stick with the Nvidia based solutions and all I can say is good luck. I have a 7900GTX and will purchase the next iteration of 8800GTX (when they are dual HD able). Had I purchased Dual 7900GTX's (and got the Nvidia system to work) then they would both be obsolete with the issue of the 8800GTX. I'd rather stick with Intel solutions for Intel CPU's. I can't really help you as I have stayed completely away from Nvidia based solutions for Intel CPU's. I also advise the same thing. I have built over 20 Core 2 systems with Intel based chipsets, Corsair Ram and Nvidia graphics. They have all built without issues. As I said, you are on the road for troubles. I don't doubt that you will in time find a solution that will bring stability. The odds are far greater that you will continue to have issues in your SLi quest on the Intel CPU platform. Each to their own though. Derek
SilentBobVHT
Well somethings just don't make sense. I tore the system apart and re-assembled it with the ram in slots A1 and B1, pushed power and it started. I got everything to work. Ran Prime95 torture test for 24+ hours. I am told if that doesn't crash your system then you can consider things to be stable. I don't know what it is but it seems to be working now. Thanks for the advice, enjoy the new year. :sunglasse
