Nilson
Guys, I have a problem with 6400C4D in dual channel mode. Just one of dummy sets: 2.22V CAS=5,the rest on Auto. Mem=800MHz (manual). FSB=400MHz. (CAS=4, 2.1v, tried also....) Sticks in A1-B1 or A2-B2: able to load Windows, crashes right after desktop shown +- 1 min. Right after this: can't load even POST! Continuously beep from the system speaker. Need to replace sticks to another slots to load again. Sticks individually: works fine even on 834MHz 3-3-3.... Nilson
What is the speed and FSB of your CPU? CPU: E6600 400x9=3600MHz (with one stick works fine) Furthermore, I check defaults setting like this: Vmem=2.1v Cas=5 (rest in Auto) Mem at 800MHz (Manual) CPU: All auto. 266x9=2.4GHz, Vcore=1.18v The same thing. After first crash - can't get POST and continuously beep from the system speaker. Please, gimme advice. I would like to localize the problem. Individually sticks goes fine but max rate is not tested yet. I'm going to test max mem speed for 4-4-4-12 2T(and1T) 2.2v today. I'll try to get stable dual channel setup for default cpu speed and 4-4-4-12 2.2v 800MHz also.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted December 15, 2006 Corsair Employees Share Posted December 15, 2006 E6600 should be ran at 266 FSB and if you are running the CPU at 400 Mhz the memory frequency should be set to 533 MHz! resulting in 1-1 settings with the memory! At those settings you are trying to run the memory over 1200 Mhz!

Nilson
Please set the memory Frequency at 533 Mhz and see what happens. Didn't get it. cpu speed = 3600MHz cpu fsb = 400MHz (bus speed 1600 (quad)) Divider 1:1 mem speed = 400MHz (DDR2 speed 800MHz) Doesn't works. You ask me to set mem speed = 533MHz (DDR2 speed 1066MHz)?? I can assume that motherboard don't work with 1:1. But with 1 stick it works fine. Check screenshot. Just found the same problem on Asus forum: http://vip.asus.com/forum/view.aspx?id=20061203010825714&board_id=1&model=P5N32-E+SLI&page=1&SLanguage=en-us
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted December 15, 2006 Corsair Employees Share Posted December 15, 2006 Load setup defaults and set the memory frequency at 533 Mhz and then change the CPU Frequency and multipler the memory frequency will be in sync with the CPU! Nilson
Load setup defaults and set the memory frequency at 533 Mhz and then change the CPU Frequency and multipler the memory frequency will be in sync with the CPU! got it. I'll check it. but it's the same settings as I have now. I'll try to boot with one stick, load setup defaults, change mem speed to 533MHz. Save it. Add another stick and will check how is it works... btw, I'll set 2.2v to avoid undervoltage issues.

Nilson
so... One stick in A1 or B1 slot; two sticks in A1-B1, A2-B2 slots: 1) check it again. On recommended settings - doesn't works. 2) on Bios defaults settings - doesn't work. One stick in A2 or B2, and two sticks in A2-B2 - works fine. I saw this post on Newegg: " after a week of trying, I can not get this mobo to work with Corsair CM2X1024 6400 C4. (or is it the other way around) lots of BSOD even after updating the bios to 0405 and setting the memory volts to 2.1. After I set the voltage to 2.1 the bios changes it back to 'auto'. Do not buy this board. (or this memory) Together? It is not ready for prime time. I checked the Corsair web site before I ordered this memory and Corsair recommended this memory for this Asus mobo. I rechecked the Corsair site today and this memory is no longer on the recommended list Major Bummer" I know it's another memory 6400C4 - but it's right near my 6400C4D v1.1. I can't understand - should I return my memory or my motherboard. There are several complains on 6400C4D with P5N32-E motherboard - all the same: doesn't work in first slots, random freezes, long beep from system speaker. There are several complains on 6400C with P5N32-E mother board with almost the same showings.... Corsair guys, please comment it. What I should do now? I have no invoice for the memory(I buy it on Newegg.com) now - since I sent it for mail rebate. Motherboard from MWave.com... I can't get answer from Asus - stiil waiting for email.. DerekT
It has been my experience that Intel makes the best chipsets for their processors. Unless a person demands SLi I do not know why anyone would move to the Nvidia based Intel CPU boards. They have many more forum posts for errors than the Intel based chipset boards. With the 8800GTS and 8800GTX there is no reason to even think of SLi now (for the vast 99% majority) so I would move to one of the Gigabyte 965p-DS3 or ASUS P5B-E Deluxe boards and keep that memory. That's great memory and should you decide you wish to sell it. I will give you your invoice price for it (minus your rebate - documented) at any time. That's how good that dram is in my estimation. However, since I do not know you, we would have to speak so that we could discuss such a deal. Paypal and other one way transfers is NOT a way I would personally go but there are more secure alternative methods. You will not easily find that RAM around anymore though. I have to tell you that. Nilson
Have a quick question: Sometimes I'm able to run 2x1Gb dual chanell. Not stable but I can load Windows and check freq and timings before freeze... So... A2-B2 dual chanell 6400C4D (D9)... in bios -> SLI-ready enabled. Level: Expert. CPU by default(all on Auto). Mem timings all Auto. Vmem=2.14v (asus Probe) CPU-Z and all other progs show 1142MHz at 5-5-5 2T. CPU-Z show this freq and timings at SPD tab also.... is it right? With one stick and the same settings I have 800MHz with 1T at 2.1v. Something strange with my EPP or SPD... but I'm still can't run stable system with the only one stick in A1 or A2 slots... btw, Ram Guy, everyday someone novice comes on Asus P5N32-E forum and says that one memory chanell doesn't work :( Today: "i bought this board and 2x1GB XXXX ram which was on the QVL list. strangely enough, i can't run my comp on 2 sticks of ram. so i can only put in one stick at a time. memtest shows no errors on the rams. it's very very very very strange. any ideas?" Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted December 21, 2006 Corsair Employees Share Posted December 21, 2006 That would suggest a bios issue do you have the latest bios version? Or maybe the PSU is your PSU big enough for the configuration you have?
Nilson
That would suggest a bios issue do you have the latest bios version? Or maybe the PSU is your PSU big enough for the configuration you have? my PSU Antec Trio 650. it's enough for my rig. it looks like bios issue. I saw some memory improvements within 0405 bios. but... they just decrease some memory timings. and... Very very strange things here: since EPP settings make unstable my bootup - I forget about EPP. SlI-ready will be always disabled in my bios. one stick in B2 slot freq 800MHz 2.1v, 266MHz FSB CPU default. I set 5-5-5-18-2T manually in the bios. The rest "advanced timings" on Auto. What I got after reboot - you can see on the screen(attached). Check CPU-Z - it shows CM2X1024-9136C5D but my sticks 6400C4D v1.1 0645065-1. Now I know why 1142MHz 5-5-5-18, it's 8500C5D "un-official" speed rate. Trc = 1 (should be 22) Trfc = 42 (correct) Twr = 5 (should be 6) Twtr = 9 (should be 3) (for which Corsair memory this timing should be 9T ?) Trrd = 3 (correct) CR = 2T (correct) it means - something wrong with subtimings detection. So, I reboot and set manually: Trc = 22, Trfc = 42, Twr = 6, Twtr = 3, Trrd = 3 : Trc = 22 Trfc = 42 (correct) Twr = 5 (should be 6 as I set it in bios) Twtr = 9 (should be 3 as I set it in bios) Trrd = 3 (correct) CR = 1T (not correct, 2T in bios) So, for some reason bios subsettings for memory doesn't work well. Ok. I download MemSet fo 680i... Initial timings as described above: Trc = 22 Trfc = 42 Twr = 5 Twtr = 9 Trrd = 3 CR = 1T MemSet: Twtr=9 -> 3 (freez and reboot), CR=1T->2T (working fine), Twtr=9->6 (working fine)... so, at this moment CR=2T and Twtr=6, lets try to decrease Twtr... Twtr=6->3 (reboot)... Ok... Something wrong with Twtr timing. I set manually subtimings in bios: Trc = 22, Trfc = 42, Twr = 6, Twtr = 9, Trrd = 3. CR=2T also... reboot: and in now I see: Trc = 22 Trfc = 42 Twr = 6 Twtr = 9 Trrd = 3 CR = 1T (not correct, 2T in bios) so, Twr was changed correctly. Maybe Twtr=9 the reason for this. I don't know. Now, the main interesting thing: I put the second stick in A2 slot... and it works! So, now I have dual channel with 5-5-5-18 and subtimings: Trc = 22 Trfc = 42 Twr = 6 Twtr = 9 Trrd = 3 CR = 1T I check 4-4-4-12 and 3-3-3-12 timings(with the same subtimings) - it works fine. So, the reason for "dead" memory chanell A can be the wrong "Auto" timings. In my case: Trc and Twtr. In B2 slot memory stick able to work with this timings - I have no idea why... but for dual channel it's too tight/unstable timings. will check one stick with these timings in A1/A2 slots and will let you know. I will check the part number for second stick - maybe it has real 6400C4D number but not 8500C5D and that's why I have problems with dual channel.... will see if me dual channel will be stable after Christmas... and will wait for new bios from Asus... Ram_Guy, sorry for long posts... I'm aggravated... 300$ for motherboard + 300$ for memory = two weeks headache. Hope my rig will work fine with dual channel mode now... Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted December 22, 2006 Corsair Employees Share Posted December 22, 2006 I would check with the MB maker and see what they say. Nilson
I would check with the MB maker and see what they say. But did you try and just run the CPU at Default and set the SLI ready memory to enable and see if it will pass http://www.memtest.org? doesn't boot with any SLI profile. Bois choose 1143MHz for my memory in case of one stick is in B1/B2 slots. A1/A2 still doesn't work - I can boot up sometimes but very unstable in Windows. bios: 0302, 0405, 0501, 0602 - checked. "Update: I just got off the phone with a Corsair supervisor, and after a short conversation, he said he would set up a P5N32E board for testing over the next couple of days, to see if he can duplicate the problems we are all having with SLI not working along with dual-channel not working correctly. Hope this helps. --------------------------update #2-------------- Corsair Tech used Bios 0602, loaded Bios defaults, then changed boot order to put floppy first, set SLI memory mode to maxCPUoverclock, then saved and rebooted to blank floppy (to get bios to update). (He said you can choose to boot to unbootable CD instead). Then he rebooted computer and said SLI memory mode working correctly (timings verified by CPUz)." Doesn't work for me. orion01
I was having the same problems. I just exchanged the MB for another one and now all my DIMM slot work with no issues. On my old MB the A1 Dimm did not work and slot A2 amd B2 worked fine. I have the PC6400C3D Overclocked to 520 4-4-4-12-2T and it has been stable all day. I am going to mess with the timings some more and see how high I can push these So just exchange the MMB and see what happens with the new one. The new one is rev 1.0 and I am using the 0602 bios. Like I said I have been doing alot of research on this and it seems like it is hit or miss just like the Striker. So I would just switch it out and try another one. You might get luck and have one that is working fine. here are my specs: X8600 @ 3575 (325x11) 1.39V Corsair PC6400C3D @ 1084(541.7) 4-4-4-12-2T 2.2V eVGA 8800GTX @ 661/2060 I am still messing with all the clocks. Nilson
I can hit 500MHz fsb easily on my mobo. I will wait for official test from Corsair and replay from Asus about unstable A1/A2.
